Cnc plug cost?

Yes I was wondering a rough cost to get a plug cut from a cnc machine about 21' ski boat thanks marty

No bad so cheaper then hand made molds. Any advice on a good computer softwhare to do some designing ?

 

Cripes, I was going to say that's kind of expensive. Is the material (foam block) for the plug included in the $90 a square foot?
I'm not sure of the process, but for $90 a square foot, what do you end up with? A shaped foam block "rough" plug (not a mold) that you still have to smooth off, coat with something that you can fair and finish off like any other kind of plug, wax and PVA? And then you can make the mold?

 

For that price we got a hull plug sanded to 80 grit. We had to take it through the grits, wax it up and make a mold from it.

I went through that whole thing and it wore me out. It's incredible the amount of time and money that goes into something like that, the multitude of details and extra things that are not usually considered but become apparent as you go along. Good software depends in part on what you want to do with it, and also on your experience, knowledge and skill set.

Rhino is very good for designing high quality surfaces and is widely used for boat design. It is very affordable at approximately $1000/copy.

Alias is commonly used in industry for surface design. The version used in the auto industry is somewhere around $20,000/seat and probably has more capabilities than Rhino. Alias Design is slightly over $4,000/copy and from I've seen it has slightly less capability than Rhino though probably not enough to make a difference for most uses.

 

I have seen $90-$110 / square ft around here. No bad so less expensive then handmade mildew. Any guidance on a good pc softwhare to do some designing?

Rhino 3D osftware is widely used for surface design. It is relatively inexpensive.

 

freeship works as well, if you really want to go "on the cheap". Its a free d-load if you can find it.
