For us who don't follow the news from SA, what's going on? Why the bad feeling about September 2012?

In hindsight of the premonition I had for September...

September saw the massacre at Marikana - mine workers strike - that left if Im not mistaken, 37 dead...and a few died over the following weeks as well
That action started a chain reaction of unlawful strikes over the country that crippled the mining sector in chaos and basically at a dead standstill and still they strike to this very day, regardless one mining group sacking over 12,000 workers. Basic labourers demanding much, much more than what trade artisans which were trained for 4-5 years and other disciplines earns.

This unlawful strike spread like veldfire to other sectors in the industries like the transport section which for the last 3 weeks brought the transport industries to its knees. Trucks are burned daily that get caught by these barbarians strikers, in fact a couple of drivers were dumped with gasoline and set alight....
This causes ATM's running out of money, fuel supplies at service stations low and Shell actually ran dry, supermarket shelves getting empty, farmers have to dump fresh fruit and produce that cannot be stored that could have feed people and need I go on.
The country is on the edge of anarchy and just a matter of time before this spreads to other industries.

The culprit of this lawlessness is the British mining group Lonmin where the original strike started - after they were out of production for a few weeks and the following massacre between police and the unlawful strikers, they dealt with the workers themselves, bypassing the unions, and gave unrealistic wage increases to the strikers. Knowing the black man's way of thinking, this was the recipe of disaster and most workers now strike against their unions as well, because they "let" them down and stop membership on the simple fact that with demands and unruly strikes, they can negotiated better.
This will be the downfall of the striking idiots because some mines they strike at are marginal mines and will preferably just shut down rather producing at a loss and prevent future BS of the same kind.

And the British Lonmin bosses sits like angels in the posh offices in London and probably turns a blind eye of the chain of events they had set in motion, destroying the economy and job positions that are already scarce as it is.

Welcome to the "new" South Africa, land of chaos, crime, corruption, **** and murder....and one can add anarchy to the list soon

No Sir, you have it wrong.
My sentence was not aimed at any racial issue but in SA we have Africans and they do view things in quite a different way than Caucasians most of the time. What to you are acceptable, wont be to them and vice versa. To top that there is also cultural and social differences a world apart that will never be bridged, regardless of colour.
Add to this the illiteracy of most blacks between the ages of 30 - 60 years which is the majority of the current workforce, problems are aplenty. These "group" of people mostly still believe in witch doctors for instance - in fact, the Marikana strikers on the morning of the massacre drank a witch doctor's brew that would have made them invisible to police bullets!!!. Get the drift now?
Furthermore, because of their lack of education and interaction with learned ones, they are easily influenced by empty promises and instigators...

In the local newspaper today - black man lost 33 years of pension, savings and job (has to resign to get pension) because of some witch doctor told him his fore fathers promised him a fortune and the sangoma (w/doctor) showed him a steel locker filled with cash that would be his, but the fore fathers demanded he paid the w/doctor his worldly savings before receiving it. If he refuses, their anger will be released on him... you can quess the rest

This explains my statement you quoted and you have to stay in Africa to understand that or best just shut up in that regard with no insult intended towards you;)

No insult intended or taken. As long as the South African white man's way of thinking includes racism, or South African black man's way of thinking includes racism, you can only have problems. Racism was our country's most disgraceful injustice. If you live long enough, you will see, I hope.

Unrealistic? Or should we rather say that their previous wages were so low that they caused massive unrests which lead to 37 deaths?
How can anyone who doesn't have to work in a mine judge the wages of people who have to breathe cancerogene dust for 8-10 hours each day and work in conditions which are closer to hell than any other working place in the world? The life expectancy of underground miners is probably the lowest among all industries, plus I can imagine how well are treated black mine workers in SA. How do you compare these things to working conditions of "trained artisans", and what value do you give to 10-15 years of lost lifespan for underground miners? In China there are documented peaks of 20 years of lost lifespan, are working conditions for a black miner in SA very different from those in Chinese mines?
This has nothing to do with black man's way of thinking, but rather about white man's greed.

The mining sectors is the best paying industry (and perks) in SA for the working class. I started in the mines at 16, and knows what that is all about and retired from the mines September 2009 (run my boatbuilding businesses parallel with my daytime job on the mines).
Tradesmen or artisans underground (like myself then) work under the same conditions as underground laboures, miners etc.

The current wage the unhappy mine workers scream at, is actually more than my son get in a white color job in the printing business after 4 years duty and he already has studied away 3 years part time for a degree in accounting on top of that.... hopefully this will put it in perspective - or security guards getting even less working 12 hour shifts seven days a week, under much more dangerous conditions.
Again, someone at a distant land knows better than locals living it.....

I know lots of Saffas as we affectionately call them, but none of them live there and moved out years ago with no intentions of ever returning. There stories that are quite consuming making me wonder why any white would still be there.

Some of there quotes and ways can be amuzing such as a walkie talkie chicken,--thats a chicken bought at the market with its head and feet still on.

They can douse for water easily and insist on explaining to me about a Rhinoserous as if I was totally unaware of what one was.

Simple and honest people now wandering the world looking for a country to accept the SA passport but for some they speak of being alive more important.

John an ex marina manage is a great guy and wont curse I consider that a measure not often found and has my utmost respect.

I had a lovely Saffa freind called Allard --the last of the gentlemen of this world, he fell on bad times literally and had his legs removed -I pushed him around the marina in a cart. He died some years ago now --His wife Christine used to speak on the BBC and had perfect diction but was the most horrid person I could imagine she wanted him to die ( said so) so she could return to her family in SA . She was the most arrogant racist person imaginable of Dutch decent and was truely awfull and supreme in her ways, even trying it on with me one night buy not wanting to pay at a function , she thought paying was for others.

I wont bore with any other stories.

Greed is not uniquely a white man's disease.

You are correct Hoyt. Evidently I have fallen in the same racist hole, but from the other side.
Greed is unfortunately a common trait of all human beings. It becomes particularly prominent when they manage to occupy the upper levels of the power hierarchy.
