Well I have 4 lots that I would like to eat oneday
    Gator - Buffalo - Kangaroo - Camel
All natural and in abundance (except Buffalo)
We as "Europeans" virtually wiped out the American Buffalo for "Beef"
We as South Africans eat fatty beef and lamb - all crap. Our chiken and pork is so on steroids and you can taste it, anyway they all taste like fish.
Because we are not a fishing community our fish is unaffordably expensive.

So the gator thing has been very interesting:D
oh and when I saw how much effort is going into the Salmon in North America I also had to shake my head = Salmon also in trouble - jeez we are stuffing up things!

I've had both gator and Kangaroo. Gator tastes a lot like chicken (turn around is fair play). Kangaroo is pretty good stuff and can be a substitute for hamburger.

There is a restaurant and hand bad shop in the middle of the crocodile tourist farm, (typical Thais) crocodile meat with thick gravy is advertised as being the best dish.

I just did'nt feel quite comfortable with that situation. Just outside is a pit of crocodiles with tourist chucking chicken carcasses in.

could never bring myself to eat kangaroo, koalas are okay once you get the skin off and roll them in bread crumbs.

If you walk round the baby tanks sometimes the baby crocs are so close you can get one. they yelp a bit but the crocodile farm staff are w--well bit not bothered if you know what I mean. First one died in the pool , must have been the chemicals yet big ones dont seem to mind it.,

Any way the second one was kept in a puddle with some string round it and later a Terrapin tank was bought for it.

This did the trick. My mate who did this has now has a 4 footer in his little lake, ( duck pond I call it)

Hey wheres my duck gone. Cuddly it is not --I realy don't know what hes gonna do with this thing.

You don't need a boat. You just need a pair.

In the 'Glades there is a ground camp at Rookery Branch with a little finger pier to tie a canoe up to. It's kind of a ways from anywhere if paddling and you won't get there too early in the day. Cleaning up dinner was always sporting because a gator lived under the pier and got a little bigger each year. It would lap up the rice and beans and fish when you washed up your pot. I decided to switch to cooking in banana leaves and forgo the pots when he got to about five feet. Hanging bent over the pier at night with a flashlight in your mouth that is shining on a gator two feet away while you rinse out cooking stuff isn't very good for digestion. But there are worse things than gators, so best you wash it out. There was a nice, informative warning sign written in sharpie marker in the outhouse, which was fine if you took a dump before dinner, but I'll bet a bunch of folks got a big surprise. That first gator lip smack will get your attention real fast.

Ralph Monroe's bio Commodore's Stories and William Bartram's Travels through North and South Carolina, Georgia, East and West Florida both have wonderful gator stories from earlier times.
