Looking for some options on a high performance diesel engine.

Building a Downeast style boat and looking for something in the range of 1000 - 1500 HP.

Similar to the size of a D13 Volvo

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

    thanks

Seeing as a D13 is about 12.5 litres and already at a highly boosted 900 hp......get a bigger engine more suited for your needs or use a turbine.

when i say size of a D13 i mean overall LWH. There are plenty of engines that have more power but get too big.

    Checking into a Cat C18 1150HP and a Man V8-1200

Probably looking size wise for an 8 or maybe 10 cyl (pref 8)

need a min of 1100HP but would go up to 1700HP

Realize that...but hp also can be rated as in litres of engine physical size. As you discovered, more hp= bigger physically sized engine. The only way around this is with a 2 stroke...which won't work anymore.

Hoping you don't need the high hp for longer periods of time...

These are 3 engines that state otherwise..

    Cat C18 = 1150 HP
    Man V8 = 1200 HP
    MTU V8 = 1250 HP

Well have at it then-try the CAT with it's rated 1150hp and look forward to getting to know your local CAT dealer- MTU and MAN don't have the amount of dealers.
