Any theories to explain the supposed (by the builder) seven hours between Mayday and sinking?

    Cheers,

    Earl

Progressive flooding through top may take some time. This yacht has real compartments with watertight bulkheads under freeboard deck

    I read that:
Once again journalists and people understanding nothing will get excited about damaged stability while it is an intact stability issue.

Believe it or not, there was NO CALCULATION OF WIND EFFECT IN INTACT CONDITION because neither SOLAS nor MARPOL nor flag regulations call for it and ABS is sole class society which has no such requirement in rules.

It is but too easy to blame master or shipyard or anybody else (what about E.T. or CIA or Al Quaeda ?) but "the truth is elsewhere".

Seems to me alot of these new-fangled yachts are getting a bit tippy these days but ships have been sinking ever since there have been ships...yachts have added more weight in upper decks over the last 50-80 years athoughll....while hull shapes have pushed the envelope in order to give high speed and stability...hulls are being asked to do alot more and forgive alot more than they used to...sometimes they just say "nyet!". The designer will lose customers not the builder I should think unless this was somehow the captains(crew) fault

More important, imho - there is an excessive tendency towards cutting hulls to create tender and jet-ski garage, large windows for the cabins etc. We (they) are starting to forget the primary functions and requirements for ship's hull, and are making it become slave to styling extravagances.

..Ah...someone may have left the garage-door open...hadn't thought of that...would think perhaps it is designed to handle such an occurence.....BUT... if they left the door to the kitchen open TOO.....then...someone's getting grounded and no allowance this week...

yeah, but say your right and it's a scam...an insurance company has their own private detectives or will hire one along with an NA if they dont already have one in their service to check out such a claim right? And if things don't add up..what then...? They can refuse the claim...get a judges order for no contest from owner or Insurance Co will file fraud charges....so forth.....oh..I almost forgot...ALLEGEDLY.... By the way..I still think Snagglepuss did it...He's a fairly shady Hannah-Barbera character afterall...and we've ruled out Boo-boo and the park ranger had an alibi...he was in Vegas with a young lady...not his wife...according to reports..;)

Such French regulation does not apply to ships engaged in international voyage and the vessel was not intended for more than 12 passengers.

This is clearly a loophole in regulation.

Regarding "garage" door (garage for what ?) this is above freeboard deck thus should be weathertight not water tight.
Such type of opening is not designed to withstand permanent immersion (which occurs when yacht leans permanently due to high wind pressure).

Maybe it opened under water pressure and pressure variations ?
But basically, the vessel should have been able to stay in upright position even in Beaufort 7 storm.

Did you have a look at design ? Gigantic superstructure compared to hull size with plenty of openings (even weathertight).

As usual it is a succession of problem : improper design plus engine failure plus bad weather equal total loss.
No loss of life is the positive thing.

NB: The designer is NOT a naval architect but interior designer. Will you fly a plane, wings of which have been designed to be "stylish" ?
