Hi, Frosty. Only if the need should arrive. I can't fault you for your engineering knowledge. It is truly a gift from God.

Rather than rehash an argument that occurred a year ago, posts in which people called one another insults have been removed. Possibly you can take that to email if need be, but let's please keep the forums here polite to one another. Thanks.

For the Austrailian members concerned about AUD/USD rates, this site has a realtime flash graph righthand side mid page.
Both countries currencies are moderately volatile against other major world currencies.
It's best to consider how BOTH are doing in the world market, instead of just comparing to each other.
The graph will make you feel better. :)
The AUD is right where it was earlier in the month. The change is due to USD being UP, not AUD down! :)

Certainly your finances affect your ability to maintain, repair, or build your boat. That and the concern in previous posts justifies my including this here. :)

Good morning everyone, Here in Australia the sun is shining but looking like it will be "showering" soon... Jeees I feel so constrained and PC it almost makes me feel like vomiting - The spectacle could be interesting as I have just eaten a Vegemite sandwich with cheese - toasted - so probable in monochrome... If it comes out in "Technicolour" I may be in trouble? - - -

Preparations are slowly continuing for a 'natural disaster' with the long anticipated global banking collapse, (that is the natural disaster I expect will impact first), The Australian Government, in its "wisdom" has promised to pay a mysterious sum in the next month to offset additional price hikes when the pollution (CO2) tax is due on 6Jul via electricity surcharges... That may buy me some fuel for my escape... I fear that "turtle pack" fuel tanks are also off the agenda, (again the lack of $$$$ issue)...

I am really concerned and worried as the outcome of the forthcoming PNG elections could also have an impact but I have a feeling that the incumbent Peter O'neill or a new opponent Sir Puka Temu http://www.postcourier.com.pg/20120528/mohome.htm may be the next PM... - I feel that the "Father" Sir Michael Somari may well "retire"... declaring something along the lines that, - 'New blood and the younger generation must step forward to lead PNG onward....'

Melanesia remains my choice location to sit down quietly and watch global turmoil from a distance, living sustainably and out of any 'line-of-fire' .....

The latest edition of that 'christian mag', 'The Watch Tower' and 'Tomorrow's World' are both full of prophesy and "end times"....

    Hi Yobarnacle,

Speaking for myself, I think that thread had reached its end some 200 pages before you mercifully put it down. Thank you.

Now if you can prevent the worst offenders from rehashing the same stuff on this one as well, I'll be grateful.

So what, they were 40 years ago too.

Pity about the turtlepac tanks, how are you going to get the range you need?

Have you seen the latest incident in Honiara? Not exactly the place I'd choose to go and wait out the 'coming collapse' compared to, say, a bit north of where you are right now.

Gooday 'barnacle' Sure hope the weather - south of your boarder - is warm - cause here in our tropics - it's heading for our winter & NOT warm at all. DARN. 8*c @0530 this morning.

Now to : "Certainly your finances affect your ability to etc - etc" - Glad that 'barnacle' said you - - cause all the blokes - that I know out here/being -downunder - have a very different idea of 'finances effecting our abilities' to do or that have anything to do with our marine activities is NOT the AUD - USD - GBP - nothing that simple - it's far more - to the point - &/or - in your face - - wears nice clothing (look even better with not much on) , smells delicious, cooks great meals (unless we bought sailing equipment today) - is fab to cuddle & in control of all that matters. Only - of course - IMHO. But all the men in our yacht clubs - seem to be controlled by the same 'finance controling forces'. Ciao, james

    Hi PDW,
I read the papers from Solomon Islands about weekly in electronic form and I did not notice anything exceptional?

Seems I recently got onto their mailing list - - had a read out of boredom - - Christian ethos has lots of good aspects but that is part and parcel of being a member of the human species where moral & ethical standards are upheld... This moral and ethical standard seems to be sadly lacking in many claiming "Christianity" and most other faith beliefs...

I personally dislike all major centres, even Brisbane, as parking and traffic are a right pain in the rectum... Range will remain by using 20 and 25 litre fuel and food grade drums (adding a few more to what I have) current capacity is around 1200 litres for 2000miles @10 knots... I have a bit more than 400litres on board...

Ghizo is a port of entry from PNG and is relatively convenient access to Western Province... I also like Sola on Vanua Lava in Northern Vanuatu as a point of entry and Temotu / Santa Cruz group in Solomon Islands.... I enter PNG via Samarai (approx 10deg 36 min 42 sec S and 150 deg 39 min 40 sec E)

Any crowded area isn't going to be a great place to be in a pinch. cities don't have to many days of food in them ( 3 is the average if I remember ) and so I'd expect the riots to explode outward from there. After that its a mater of fuel. How far the riots travel is a function of how much fuel the rioters can get a hold of.

My bet is a busy luxury port full of nice big fat full of food and fuel yachts is going to be a real target.
