    self-righting tri

Thanks ,Corely! Apparently it's designed to be "self-righting" and it sounds like they mean that in the true meaning-it will right itself without outside or crew effort. Pretty good work from Craig Loomis-designer of Earth Race.

    Wow

That sure is some 'space-age' looking project. Not my cupa but looks like it might get there rather quickly.

Doug - PM - me if you got my rather messed up e-mails. Please. Just to make sure you got what I tried to send. Tnx, caio, james

OK this is a bit of thread necromancy but since the two designs are similar I thought it appropriate to put it in the same thread.

I just noticed in Gizmag that another team (led by Andras Bakos team mate is Eric Harrewijn) have had a similar type of rowing trimaran constructed by Flaar in Hungary but for two handed operation once again designed by LOMOcean, it looks like a big brother to the solo design. Their intention is to row the Atlantic New York to Paris.

It looks pretty cool! I get that there gonna need cover from elements and such, but I wouldn't have thought they'd do that much boat in terms of weight. I'm sure it's super light carbon and all that but there's a lot there.

Danny Sunkel, who commissioned the first boat by LOMOcean design, seems to be all talk, as his boat has been done for more than 2 years and as far as I can tell, he hasn't rowed it. He has, however, been great at lining up sponsors to give him free stuff. He dropped off the radar for over a year, and now, his site shows a gruesome surgery on his arm, presumably another reason to postpone his trip.

So, I have much more confidence that the new guys will actually attempt to row from New York to Paris. Best of luck to them.

Sunkel has had a lot of problems but he is still very much into it based on his site. I wish both teams good luck!
