    Just looked at Petrel . . .

    Page 1 -- 2 -- 3 -- 4 -- 5 -- 6 and a [IMG] PDF with the whole article from 1978 Boat Builder magazine.

If the size is OK for you then she looks like she also fits your other requirements as posted here exept for the gaff rig and the first mentioned ± length. Petrel has several options, cabin or open, centerboard or keel, and maybe more choices.

But I didn't see the Offsets Table which you need for building. Page 6 says at end... ‘‘To obtain enlarged plan for building Petrel, Craft Print No. 106, see handy order form on last page of this issue.’’ And that's the problem with a lot of old magzine plans, where to find the complete plans to build from ? ? ?

Well the Smithsonian has a lot of plans, so you could always ask there for a specific plan, and they for sure have all Chapelle's plans . .

PAR, I'm afraid your plans are too pretty for this customer*, but which of your own designs would you suggest here ?

Please post one just for me :)

    Cheers,
    Angel

P.S. - * Cwby, no offense meant, please take it with a wink ;)

Thanks to all for the help. PAR that's a really pretty boat, but with all due respect, 1. It's a little too... modern or respectable or something. It has a lot of what I want but something just doesn't "do it". #2 Isn't Devlin the main stitch and goo guy? I've NO interest in contaminating a good boat with goo. I understand what you're saying about taking your time. I've been looking since December. I thought as a last resort I'd bother the good folks here. At least 'till y'all run me off.
Kayaker, Believe it or not I've looked at that boat before.I dropped it for some reason I can't remember, but there are a lot of other boats there to look over, thanks.
Ms. Angelique I looked at Svensons, and I thought the plans were all there. My mistake I'm sure. I'll keep looking.

Here's another one to look at... - - ("te" added to the previous one ;))

    [IMG] - [IMG]

Stevenson Projects ---> Pocket Yacht Plans

Complete plans to build from far as I know, maybe someone can comment about the boats or the plans here, or it could be asked to the good folks at BYYB.

Please keep us posted and post a link if you're gonna start a thread there . . . . :)

    See also some of PAR's plans like . . . . . . .

Discrete - RYD-14.11, more capable than you asked for, though . . .

    LOD: 18'
    LWL: 14' 11"
    Beam: 6' 6"
    Draft: 27" through 39" - configuration dependant
    Displacement: 2,674 pounds

Many options for... bow, stern, rig, rudder, cabin, keel, and also several options for construction method and build materials.

    [IMG] - [IMG]

    [IMG] [IMG]

    Or her 2' stretched sister... Discrete St. RYD-16.10 - LOD: 20' - LWL: 16' 10"

Oh well, hope they're not too pretty in your eyes . . . . :?:

    Good luck !

Cwby: whatever you choose, no matter how goo-free the construction :D or how ancient and ivy-covered the design  or how disreputable the appearance  make sure you let us know what it is and - most important of all - keep us posted on the build! As a convicted minimum-epoxy builder myself, I will stand and cheer on the sidelines!

As you see no one can get by the "no plywood or epoxy" requirement.......;)

When perfect little boats are on offer everywhere it makes little sense to struggle with new building........there was a nice Tahiti ketch on ebay for give away a short while ago, haunt craigslist.......http://victoria.en.craigslist.ca/boa/2977432744.html

Welcome, cwby. Angélique has always been very good at finding needed information; so has PAR(a tip of the hat to both).

I can think of no designs, that haven't any goo or plywood, that wouldn't benefit from both.

Just saw Goodchild also has the 16' Petrel plans which I guess includes the Table of Offsets? Worth to ask, or just buy, if interested.

    D.N. Goodchild ---> Sail Boat Plans ---> Petrel 16' ---> $ 8.95, booklet 16 pages, 6 plates.

But we have to skip her as she's a bermudian and build of plywood . . . . . ;)

Btw, the 18' Petrel there, by Charles D. Mower, doesn't meet the SOR either as she is good looking and also no gaffer . . . .

    But she is a round-bottomed center-board knockabout sloop . . . .

    Hmmm, ‘‘round-bottomed’’, maybe no plywood . . ? ?

    D.N. Goodchild ---> Sail Boat Plans ---> Petrel 18' ---> $ 7.95, booklet 12 pages, 3 plates.

    Cheers,
    Angel

    Maybe this is the exception . . . .

GRAND BANKS 22 by Ted Brewer

    LOA: 22' 0"
    LWL: 19' 2"
    BEAM: 7' 3"
    DRAFT: 3' 0"

‘‘ The construction is of plywood or seam batten planking, epoxy or resorcinol glued and nail fastened to bulkhead framing.’’

She's capable of much more than asked for and specs looks like she meets the full SOR, except she has to be (?) a gaff sloop, or maybe a gaff cutter, and it would be hard to make that outside ballast out of concrete . . :D

Btw, Goodchild also sells the plans...

    D.N. Goodchild ---> Sail Boat Plans ---> THE GRAND BANKS 22 ---> $ 8.95, booklet 14 pages, 7 plates.

I wonder if they are complete plans and if this is OK with Ted as he sells the plans himself too and Goodchild's price doesn't look like there is going anything to him . . ? ?

    Cheers,
    Angel

    Ah, think I've found Cwby's next boat . . . . .

    D.N. Goodchild ---> Sail Boat Plans ---> TRIVIA ---> $ 7.95, booklet 7 pages, 5 plates.
‘‘ ... said not long ago ... with particular reference to the new Lake Texoma ... ’’ <--- that must be about 65 years ago now . . ;)

So the Trivia is designed, ± 1947, for Cwby's home waters, not sure there is no plywood, but maybe not, so maybe she meets the full SOR except for the omission of the gaff . . :)

There might be an escape if the plans from Goodchild are not complete, William F. Crosby was a longtime editor of Rudder and also a boat designer, copies of most of his original plans can be ordered from . . . .

Mystic Seaport ---> Ships Plans Collections ---> W ---> William F. Crosby - - (they sort them by first name)
    Good luck !
    Angel

    P.S. - What are the opinions, is Trivia a ply boat or not . . ? ?

This is the 18' Nanny Gay a hard chine carvel build.

Then of course is the 20' Maid of Endor, a well known carvel build of notable shape.

Both Atkins designs and solid plank built.

Maid of Endor by John Atkin is a good choice.
Then there's Surprise and various sisters by Paul Gartside......
    Renegade by Lyle Hess.
The Vashon Island cutter and others by William Garden, plans at Mystic.
Various designs including Chloe by Harrison Butler, plans from the Harrison Butler Association.

    From Garden......
