I am calculating preliminary Lightship weight for my fishing trawler. I complete the calculation of my ships steel structure weight but outfitting and machinery items stops me.
    • How can I calculate the preliminary weight of outfitting items?
    • The owner gives me the specification of machinery items without weight. If anyone known with these Machinery please tells me about the weight.

What I do in these cases, since the suppliers of the equipment are already defined, is to ask directly to them full information about their products, or look in their catalogs that are surely on the web.

Sorry don't think me wrong. I'm just preliminary calculating machinery weight of my ship. Machinery isn't fixed. It is conceptual. I don't have any drawings of this machinery or specification. I search in web but not found. If you know something please tell me about preliminary machinery weight calculation.

Again, contact the manufacture's and ask for the technical specification drawings, which will provide the CG and physical dimensions you require. Yep, it's a tedious affair, welcome to yacht design. Eventually, you'll generate a data base of hundreds of items. Consider this your beginning.

Just 3 seconds with Google : search for Caterpillar, USA Model C18 x 2 synchonized

Although machinery not yet definitive, it is clear that this procedure will get a much more accurate data than any other theoretic. And besides, you always have a justification, reliable, about weights you've used. Like PAR says, start now to create a good database with equipment you use.
