Are you going to build it to sell it or just for your own use?

If you create all the drawings yourself, and do not copy any of the boats original dwgs in question, and the drawings are based upon your own calculations and what you see as "similar" (visually), then you can do whatever you like. This has been going on for centuries.

The only proviso is that some companies create some design features...to make it stand out from the rest....and thus, they often copyright this. But this means it is a signature of their design and is by default in every design they ever do, thus claiming it to be "their" design feature.

Some companies patent their designs (more often than not as a marketing tool, no other reason, since none technically exist to show it as being unique..yet this is sadly allowed by some countries a being patentable)...rather extreme and silly, but is done where a company feels it has something "unique"...a quick search of patents will yield if you are breaching any patent laws of your country.

    Other than that...have fun :)

Based on that very limited description, you can do that. As long as you aren't lifting blueprints or cad files or using property that someone else owns. Duplication of others work in a manner that doesn't require the skills of the original designer/builder, such as splashing a mold or obtaining data suitable for reproducing the object is where you run afoul.

Can you state your own wants and expectations of your ship without referencing the other one? You said boat line. Do you mean a whole series of hulls?

We had a pretty good copyright discussion here not long ago. I'll try to dig it up.

Couldn't find what I was looking for, but if you search Patent or Copyright you will find several hours of reading in these forums.

use tracing paper, enter into "freeship" or whatever and have THAT tweak the lines

for your new size and speed parameters, just a bit.

I couldn't imagine anyone considering it an 'infringement' with a record of new computer generated lines on file.

I can. If the software wanted a spline format input file and you fed it one that you filched, I imagine that is copyright violation regardless where it led to.

First piece for own use.. but latter if anyone order from us, we are wish sell it... especially I will have own mold

Sure, I must pay naval engineer, he will form 'scratch' start own calculations and drawings. We have image of other 'cloned' model only. We must do all 'alone', calculations, new sizes, small differences on hull. But as I say, when you from 'far' looks, it is 90% same boat, 2x smaller

RE: yes, hull 90% same visually, but 2x smaller... 'cabin' totally different only

Hopefully this thread doesn't become evidence in a patent infringement court case !
