Will $5/gallon gas change the next boat you buy?

They had cheap fuel in Malaysia till last year, it was Government subsidized, can you believe they pushed motoring and gave engine oil to encourage it. Then it all went belly up and foreigners were not allowed to buy diesel in drums or cans. You had to pick a station that did not have the deisel pump in view.

maybe a long thin tri hull like some of the new ferries , super effficient main hull with amas for stability, there is a boat of this type on here somewhere . built in new caledonia.

 

this is very interesting...steam expansion? hydrogen? not sure if this even worked--they say this guy got poisoned?...he does say some things that sound a lot like free energy...which to me is suspect...but if was onto something the technology died with him...sad! his terminology was confusing..

 

yes he is poisoned....there is a lot of hho generators used in engines but his was going on just water, no gas fuel needed ... u can find a lot of examples on youtube

Now in France the price is 7$ per gallon !
Our next cruise Must pass by : Algeria 0,14 per lit, Or Venezuela, Lybie; Egypte etc if we
want continue to navigate !
Because even with our (around ) 140 D:L ratio we still need 0,85 lt per nm at 7,2nds .
Our next boat will be a power trimaran...if I exchange my 60 kg dog against a chihuahua.

thats even if the reserves of fuel hold up--we are just past world peak production...

 

How will USA react when they are faced with the REAL price of oil and are confronted with US$10 per gallon...

TAPIS out of Singapore Trade is around US$128/barrel and Brent is close to that price and other oils hold similar increased prices...

. . . . . Except for a non existent "WTI" because it is not available from USA only fields at USA demanded levels... That "market quoted price" has to be subsidised, - or - price manipulated to go against the trend of GLOBAL MARKETS... Expect the shock sometime soon...

haha- yea that cat sure was nice...i use wood. a little oil is needed for lubrication but a gallon would last me for ages...the cat needs electrics and once your charge is gone your waiting a while to recharge...btw i read that article on the 21k catamaran--i wish the guy sold plans for that..id get a set just to have on hand ..for when fuel goes to 100 dollars a gallon...

i think an equivalent vessel would burn 20 000 lbs of diesel a day too...if fitted with diesel..what did the QUEEN E2 burn?
coal though --is 15 TIMES cheaper than diesel--so if the thermal efficiency of steam is 6 % and diesel 36 percent --steam is still cheaper to run.

but now -today- they have steam engiens that can run at 21% thermal efficiency and with some mods 27%!! add that to coal which is 15 TIMES cheaper and its a head scratcher why we dont use steam now? plus the old arguments dont apply anymore...and steam engines can be automated now. and instantly fire up almost as fast as a diesel...

 

QE 2 was diesel, she had 9BMW generators. The turbines were ripped out at her first refit in Germany much to the dislike of many.
