    Illusion

From Sailing Anarchy front page: This is not so much "great monohull video" as it is interesting to see a boat like the International 2.4 meter that uses a spinnaker: its the Illusion.... http://www.sailinganarchy.com/index_page1.php

After a large turnout over the Valentine Weekend which was convincingly won by ex Olympian Colin Simonds this weekend 10 boats came out to play. Saturdays conditions were brisk and challenging between 18 to 25+ knots in squalls which caught a few people out and you had to pump hard to stay afloat. The ever calm and smiling Graham Bailey was the winner of the day scoring a 3rd and two first places in an impressive display of boat handling.

Building the Firefly Dinghy in 1958

First seen on SA front page: http://www.britishpathe.com/video/firefly-racing-dinghy/query/dinghy sailing

    Partial description from Pathe:

M/S of a man taking layer of veneer and placing it on bench in front of him. High angle shot of the man's hands as he measures and marks the veneer. Man takes another slip, measures it, marks it. C/U shot of the man's face while working. M/S of another man taking another piece of veneer to cut and shape it on the saw. C/U shot of the man's hands while shaping the piece on the saw. M/S of the man's face as he works.

In this workshop in Hamble, Hampshire, workers will use three layers of veneer and employ special hot moulding method to create light, fast and beautiful sailing dinghy. L/S of a mould. Several shots of the men starting to build a boat over the mould. Several shots of the veneer being fitted over mould and stapled - this is the first layer. Next two layers are to be glued on. M/S of the two men working on the gluing machine. C/U shot of a veneer strip coming through the gluing machine rollers with glue on. M/S of the glued veneer strips being placed on the mould.

    Corley epoxy coated

I dont know whether this video counts as great but it's a highlights video of the Antigua race week. Nicely produced showing a nice variety of yachts racing Posted on the SA news page.

Depends on your definition of planing. To me, no. They are dragging half the river with them in their stern wave and never seem to get free and climb out of the trough between the bow & stern waves. To many other people, yes they are.

In 25 knots breeze if the boat could really plane, it should be doing so. From the looks of things a husband/wife in a Tasar (no spinnaker) would be much faster. But that is NOT a negative comment on the 10' skiff - it is a much more challenging boat to sail, and requires far more skill.
