Well, it's taken a year since I acquired the bare steel hull, and as a nonprofit we do have volunteers. This project has attracted a lot of attention, we've been donated our entire propulsion and power generation system and plenty of other equipment (over $200,000 worth in 2011!) and many volunteers come most weekends. Just recently, Gates Worldwide, bless 'em, donated some very important (and expensive!) belt drive equipment. We're hoping we can get a solar panel farm and powerful watermaker from somewhere to complete the inventory...

Even so, we're just completing propulsion and steering with some controls, all the internal carpentry needs to be done at the dock in the upcoming months before departure to take her station commencing October.

This launch will help us with steering, propeller and stability/inclination trials, then she gets hauled out again for final external sandblast and painting.

She swims!

She's in the water as a fundraiser event and to mark the waterline and determine exact displacement using FreeShip. We'll relax at dock for a while to decompress, then it's back out of the water to complete twin driveshaft installation, install heads and all the through-hulls, exhausts, sandblast and paint external. Then back in the water to complete below-deck carpentry. The last addition will be a ketch sailing rig, then sea trials in August.

 

Looks like it could be a very useful and sturdy vessel for her charge by the looks of her...may she excel in her function with dignity and grace...
