    Hi

Everything is simple for experts but not for amateurs. Anyway, it would be easy for someone who has done all these time consuming calculations already, to post them in a pdf in this forum.

You could try TouchCAD: http://www.touchcad.com/index.html . I have never used it, but I see that it has an OSX version, plus the hydrostatics tools. And there's a possibility to download an evaluation version, so you can give it a try before buying.
The author of the software is a member of this forum, his nick is Ludesign: http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/profile/ludesign.html . You could ask him about the details regarding the capabilities of the software.

    Cheers

TouchCAD it is. Looks great after browsing the website. Seems to do all the basic calculations you need for designing a small tender (based of an existing hull shape).

    Once again, many thanks, Daiquiri

I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but I've taken to using the open source software tool CalculiX for FEA analysis on planing craft. The learning curve is a bit steep however.

Thanks for the mention of CalculiX. I hadn't heard of it before.

Anyone with experience using Z88 Aurora, another free FEM package? There are versions for Windows, Mac and Linux. http://www.z88.org/

Here is the scantling book I did for a school project. It was done using Lloyd's special service craft rules. I haven't looked at it in years, as it was student work I'm sure there are errors and misunderstandings but you should be able to get the jist of it.
