    Hi,

Is Mercruiser Alpha sterndrive strong enough for 250hp/4000rpm / max torq. 460Nm diesel engine assembled on planing hull boat 8,5m (28ft) / 3000kg

How about Sterndrive engineering SE116 or SE106, are these ok or just some cheap...?

Do I need to go directly to Bravo 1 or 3?

    Thanks

Sterndrive Engineering drives are aftermarket copies of alpha drives.

Spec is 300 hp and ~300 ft lbs torque max

Alpha drives like smaller, lighter faster boats.

People start to break them when they put 300 hp behind a heavy boat.

A bravo would be better for a 250 hp diesel.

Thank you for reply. I will start searching Bravo instead of Alpha or SEI

Bravo rather than Alphas are the way to go.

Also Konrad started off like Sterndrive Engineering making aftermarket clones of alpha drives. Now they make their own drives, a TRS replacement PRS drive and beefy commercial / gas / diesel outdrives. http://www.konradmarine.com
The konrad 520 / 540 handles up to 738 ft. lbs. of torque

No Mra, the 250 hp diesel will probably wreck an Alpha drive on the first day if you open the throttle all the way. And if it doesn't do that, it will rip the propeller hub.
It is the combination of engine torque and 3 tons boat weight that is deadly for any Alpha drive.

Thank you for comments. Just wondering is transom hole same for Alpha- and Bravo drive? Or even better, is it possible to use Alpha transom shield with Bravo?

Konrad drive looks interesting but it need separate gearbox or is there some model with reverse gear also?

New Bravo drives are expensive so I am trying to find more economic solution, maybe second hand Bravo or Volvo.

The transom cutout is the same size for alpha drives and bravo drives.

No.You need a bravo transom gimbal assembly.
Anything is possible, but I would say no. Different trim cylinders, shift mechanism, water intake (no pump in bravo drive) the list goes on.
