    This is so funny....

    Ah history....

Generally a vessel will only anchor in 20 ftms or less...why, because it is the depth of a standard leadline, if you have bottom on a leadline you can anchor...why, because a cable length is 120 ftms, so a 20 ftm leadline gives 6:1 scope which is good for most anchors....why is a cable 120 ftms, because that is the length most ropewalks. Even today a ship's anchor rode is normally 8 shots of chain, a shot being 15 ftms....why is it called a shot, because 15 ftms (90 ft) is the maximum range you would use a pistol at....why 90 ft, because at greater range than that you can't point shoot because the drop is too great.

Now why would someone give me negative rep for this post?

Not only do I find it puzzling, I find it aggravating that the ding was anonymous.

If you wanted to ding me this one would have been more understandably qualified.

    You're most welcome, but no.

How are the conversions coming along?

The thing about dumb-asses is the only way they can look good is by being a smart-***...

Okay, I'll let the cat out of the bag.

First I added them all up.

Then I divided that total by how many there were.

    And presto-whamo, the average.

    Easy-peezie lemon squeezie!

I do know what boat he has and what geography he is anchoring in. Another swing and a miss for my favorite dock dweller with limited hands on nautical knowledge.

Nimble. Don't take this wrong, but you need to go to a book store and get an intro to sailing book. Learning how to anchor properly, learning the correct terminology and learning how to handle your new boat are important, life critical things. You need to study, not ask questions online. That's my advice, take it or leave it.

wow, that was SO HARD to give up and actually answer a question.
maybe if I had to ask, I must not have known the answer, how foolish of me.
