This seems to be a great paper on fuel production in the States and delves into the way fuel is made. It's very readable and interesting.

There were so many threads on $5 gasoline and fuel economy and stuff, I didn't think just one of those threads should have this link.

 

Very interesting, but no more complicated in theory than making moonshine. But like Moonshine taxed to deaths, regulated, and only allowed to be produced or distributed via government licenses. I am not saying we don't need it, just wondering how much of the cost is based on that.

 

Yup. Very simple process. I liked all of the extra information on ethanol, which I was not fully informed on. I found one of those graphics that shows where every dollar goes when you buy fuel to add to the thread:

Pretty much the same, but it is 78% in crude oil now.

The reason for many of the "rules" is to keep competition at bay.

Big companies would prefer to be a monopoly and all these "gov" rules and regulations make the entry cost of competing much higher.

In short, my opinion is that the Jew guys will hit Iran first, Iran will retaliate with closing of the Strait of Hormuz - directly cutting off a big oil supply to the USA and the world for that matter, which leave uncle Sam no option but to assist Israel and entering the conflict. Just hope it will be over soon if it comes to that. Tired of paying high fuel prices and USA is actually ridiculously cheap with petrol prices compared to us and the rest of the world.

America is awash with oil,- its reserves are full right now and next year will increase exports of oil by 22% Source bloomberg Tv this morning.

The reality is a lot of Americans are stupid. Oil prices are a function of the amount of oil consumed in the world which has increased from 56,000 barrels a day in 1983 to 84,000 barrels a day in 2009. Combined with a decrease in the proven reserves world wide. In short, demand is up, and supply is down, so prices go up. For some reason Americans can't seem to grasp the idea that there is nothing we can do to really effect the world wide cost of oil.

 

Though I'm sure Iran can't close those international waters. The entire world would not let them.

If there is someone benefiting, maybe. Otherwise, if several countries are affected and the status quo is disrupted, that will quickly sway all votes for a NATO or UN end to the blockade.

I guarantee nobody will let that country stop the oil flow.

But why are you thinking they will be able to? Do I need solar after all?

 

They won't be able to close it for long, however they can do other things that could be worse. Remember they have agents all over middle east.
