water in the fuel tank - 28' seabird power boat

your questions are good. we can't learn anything if we don't ask questions. by small amount of petrol i am talking maybe 1/2 to 1 liter in 300 lts. why do you think there is water in the tanks, are the water seperators full, are the carby jets blocking up. is there anyone you know that can help you drain the tanks.

 

yes .... there r water coming to the water Separators ... i drain it then it comes again ... i guess the water come to the tank as its condensing from the atmosphere .. the whither where i am is very humid .... actually i just recived a message from gonzo and i would like to share it with u
Hi Tito:
The first choice is to pump the water from the bottom of the tank off. the pickup tube for the fuel feed does not touch the bottom so there is a layer of water sitting there. There should be an access to the fuel level sender unit. It comes off with five screws. I use an automotive type electric fuel pump to drain tanks, but you can use an outboard fuel line with a primer bulb to suck the water from the bottom. The other thing to address is to find if water is coming into the tank from the vent or or fill pipe. I hope this helps.

 

It's likely coming in the fuel fill somehow.

Shove a clear hose in to the bottom of the tank and suck it out with a fuel pump. You'll have to scavenge around to find it all. List the boat if need be to create a low point and that's where all your water will be.

Then fix your leak.

I ask again how did the water get in the tank ???:?:
Hose clips have a habit of loosing there tension over time and coming loose !! check all clips ( asin every clip !! filler and vent !!) with a screw driver and fit new clips if they are rusty or damaged and dont work !!
You need to know where it came from so you can fix the problem and wont happen again !!
Semi flush fitting deck fittings are always a problem and let in water !!,also make sure the vent is mounted properly . There are some clever side mounted fillers that have vent tubes built in to them !!
Owning a First boats always has a very steep learning curve !!
Always remember if your boat breaks down have a well rehursed plan B at to how to repair it and get going again !!,and if not repairable how to get home or back to a shore !!
Its a bit like having a nice long anchor rope that the other end is not tied to the boat !! do you carry a second anchor and rope ? Or the age old problem of the drain bung in the transom when you are standing ankle deep in water !! OH DEAR !! take care and live to go boating another day !! it really can be fun :!:

Ok if the boat hasnt been used for a while i would deffinetly drain the tank and get all the crap that is likly to be there as well as the water !!
Go look for the filters i suggested as you will need a really good filtering system !!
Condensation Water could be just a part of a bigger ongoing problem so mount the filter water separator where you can see it and is easy to get to !!
I build boats for a living and have never ever had problems with any of the boats built ! either diesel or petrol , from 10 hp or 6000hp

My own boat has oil tank for the outboard and a water separator filter complete with replaceable element dirt filter, all mounted in the same place !!all hoses are clip on and can be removed or bypassed in the case of a serious problem ! I never leave any fuel in my tanks for more than one month !!
Its always taken out and used in the car or mower or anything else !!.
The small fine filter on the motor should never have to do any work but just be a back up incase there ever is a problem !!

 

Keep the tank full, no condensation.

Keeping the tank full all the time could be a hassle so get and use a water separator filter with a replaceable element or even two to be safe !! Its always going to be a fact of life so be prepaired for the inevertable !!

 

I'm with Gonzo here, old fuel and an unknown amount of water to me indicates a need to drain the tank. Most gasoline only has a shelf life of a couple of months before the octane starts to drop and you can get compression problems.

You could also look into hiring someone to polish the fuel, but typically until the tanks get into the thousands of gallons it costs more to polish than to replace. You can also sell the bad fuel back to a lot of refineries for around the market price of crude oil if you have a refinery nearby.

 

thanks every one .... i did it ... i toke the water out ... and had my 1st trip with my boat ... it was amazing ...... yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

 

You can filter out the water from the fuel by pouring the fuel through a funnel with a genuine chamois lining it. The fuel will flow through but the chamois will stop the water which will forma puddle in the chamois. Make sure the chamois has no holes in it.

well ... it was a bit tricky .... i asked few friends to sit in the corner of the boat so i have a lower point and gather all the water in the tank in this point ... then i use the manual fuel bump start connected to the feeding hose ... start to bump out ... i started to get water coming out .... then more than 3 liters of fuel ... i toke run the engines for 20 min monitoring the glass as the fuel filter with the water separator ... no water come out ... then i toke the boat for a trip keeping the eye on the filter and everything went fine
