Trust me CatBuilder, free energy exist. The west doesn't want it.

nothings free but you can recycle fuel from all kinds of petroleum products. The truck was a proof of concept for the filter system, which I wanted to be able to work a number of different fuels depending on what was available. I didn't want to be fighting over veggie oil if motor oil is available. Whats the point.

My next, and I'm dying to get started, it the pyrolysis system. I should be able to convert plastics and tires into fuel. Free, no, but trash tends to be cheap. The plan is to get paid to take the tires, paid for the fuel, and paid for the excess electricity, as well as the carbon black and the steel belts. I just found the last link in the chain yesterday at the alternative energy conference I spoke at. Some guy wants the carbon residue. Not sure what he does with it but I don't really care, as long as he's willing to pay me for it.

All in all recycling is not so offensive to the establishment as is developing an entirely new form of fuel, so I think I'm safe for the moment. ;-)

    No, you have not.

Fuel at this time is so cheap (one could also say a sailing rig is so expensive to build and maintain) that to harvest the wind will cost you more than a power cat of the same size and speed will burn on the same milage. *

So sailing is just for fun and you have to take the extra costs for granted for the time being . . . . :)

    Cheers,
    Angel

    P.S.

    * - taking in account that you also have the expense of engines in your configuration

You guys have a perception problem or what ? You can make free energy if a once off expense can count as free, a powerfull one as well. Your government will remove you permanently as it is not in national interest that you do things like that.

Just take my word for it for now ok.

Angelique has a point Cat, I looked into the comparison extensively and it actually costs more is start up and maintenance to sail than power, granted the trade off depends on location but over all its much cheaper to power than sail.

Sounds crazy but that was the general consensus

    thread tittle was

    whats cheaper power or sail.

Sailing is very expensive. Im replacing a set of standing rigging plus a mainsail now....eye watering. Never go sailing unless it is your passion.

I once walked from Vancouver, through British Columbia,to Calgary.

Then, I bought a 50 cc scooter to ride back to Vancouver, and the gas cost quite a bit less than the food I ate in walking.

Yeah, sounds strange, but motoring being cheaper as sailing is the same kind of thing as driving your family around in a car is cheaper as walking. Compared to other costs (like shoes or a sailing rig) fuel is very cheap and still gets cheaper counted in time you have to work for it.

Yes, fuel is very cheap compared to other things. In the example it needed only the costs of shoes to get driving cheaper as walking. But if taking food into account you only need to calculate the costs of the extra food you ate because of the walking, if just sitting in a chair that time you had to eat something too.

    Cheers,

food calories are about the most expensive form of energy. Its kinda mind blowing how these cyclists think they are saving gas when they ride. Its extremely expensive in terms of petroleum to bring food to the table. Another thing to consider is how much interference one cyclist causes to traffic. If you stop a line of 20 cars that had been moving at say 40 mph and now they're going to have to accelerate again. Well as you can see it adds up pretty quick what that "recreational" ride begins to cost.

You are all missing the point completely. Free energy, as defined by my background in science, means energy from nowhere. The energy you harvest from wind and solar is as close to that as you get in this universe. Dollars and Euros are nor part of the equation.

Also, there is no free energy (money wise) or i surely would be installing it.

ah, your thinking free energy is energy you can capture yourself, fair enough. I think we are all considering the cost of collection, storage and use.

My personal take on the whole issue is that I'm better off going after a source of energy thats least popular. Like waste tires or oil.

I'm all for sailing, used to spend days and days out on the water, but a big live aboard sailor is so expensive. I think its insurance that requires you to replace rigging every so many years and stuff like that. Eye watering sounds like a good description for it. I'd love to sail, but I just think I could afford it. My bet is there's trash floating just about everywhere and a few hundred lbs of the right kinda plastic yield a few hundred lbs of fuel. I'll know better what my conversion rate is once I build my proof of concept bed.

Anyway best of luck Cat. Sounds like your kicking its *** over there

    Cheers

Insurance and common sense. I get about 100,000 miles out of a set of standing rigging. Like tires on a car, it wears out. Same with a mainsail. You could try to extend the cycle, but when the wind is up you just cant sleep.

Why go sailing if you cant get a proper nights rest ?
