I have a group of people who wants to put a forum up. Sadly nothing to do with boating, but I was wondering which software this is and how difficult / expensive it is as this forum works very nice and well.

    Thanks !

Use Vbulletin. It's the easiest to work with. It costs a few bucks, but it's well worth the price. Scroll to the very bottom of this page and look at the fine print.

Agreed, it does seem to be the friendliest forum software as least as far as users point of input anyway as far as the administration aspect I have no idea. Fanie you may also pick up some useful information here or maybe even glean some on vBulletin's own community forum here...

I also agree. You will note http://www.boote-forum.de also uses it. It is very user friendly as previously stated by Bamby.

No software is infallible, but vBulletin's record has been better than many other software lines. This site has been using vBulletin since 2001.
Other options to consider include IPB and XenForo.
