Good fences make good dogs - and neighbors.

Ya but after years of winning over the dog, fences inhibit coveting thy neighbours human females. :D (Just couldn't resist)(the devil made me do it):p

    Ok so back on subject

I was thinking that since my resources are limited and I hate banks so much that using what cash I have to do an owner finance on land or real estate. In the present economic conditions my bargaining power is pretty good and I'd circumvent the banks to boot. Might be able to drive a good bargain and get some riverfront property with ocean access already built

Or I could look for something thats kinda scrape off but foundation salvageable, I could frame up a small ranch house on the existing concrete if it were still sound and use the existing hook ups. Might be another nice cheap way to gain ground.

Gizmo is about the biggest chick magnet I could have ever found. Kinda a perk that goes along with the dog.

Boston have you short listed an area you would like to live in. ? This was my first decision --In my case which province off the Island. I had no problem moving to U.S. as basically I had grown up under the stars and stripes but growing older I could not afford the medical coverage. (Example this trip south will cost us $700 for medical insur. which is 75% of my fuel from here to Key West.) So that left Canada. I wanted milder winters and affordable useable water frontage close to a capitol city (opportunity for work)which basically limited me to two provinces--Nova Scotia or British Columbia. Waterfrontage in B.C. close to Vancouver is totally out of the affordiable question so that left Nova Scotia. The search was on, and two years later i located this piece of land. Sweat equity alone built the place which is still ongoing some 25 yrs. later.

Sure have but I'm torn as to which area I'd like to explore first. Oregon has really good health care but Alaska has its perks as well. Id consider emigrating but I might not be able to meet some of the qualifications. Although both my parents were Canadian citizens at one time.

Last I checked Alaska wasn't Canada.

    Canadian's favorite U.S. road: A1A.

    Viking North,
Along Florida coast they have catchy tourist (catch a tourist) names for the area. Treasure coast, Emerald coast ect.
So is your piece of Nova Scotia the Palm coast? :D

Boston: That Pacific coast is nice. I have a sister who lived in Origon for awhile now lives on Whitby Isl. Washington State. She married a sub. radio operator now retired. The ony drawback from her reports is the fog and rain. Canada's Alaska is Labrador- summers warm but too short--winters long but too long. Not a good climate when one is up in age. Have you looked into your Canadian status - doesn't hurt to check it out -gives you another option -- all in all it's a better bang for the buck as far as cost of living is concerned.
Hoyt: Thats because the Canadian politions were too dam stupit to reconize a gift horse in the face when they had the chance. My Uncle operated bull dozer on the origional Alaska highway not as a Canadian Citizen but as a citizen of the Country of Newfoundland. Which is also my birth citizenship. We were the first and origional New England Colony.
Yobarnacle: Yup we have a touristy name the Bluenose Coast accessed by the Light House Route Hwy. #3. Speaking of the Palm Coast So far this winter we have had warmer temperatures than Atlantic Florida on several ocassions. Today it is 41 deg, F-- two days ago 52deg.F. One small snow fall two days before Xmas. 2in. melted two days after. Basically it's been above freezing - no snow thus far this winter, Had a few days of 59-60 deg. F in Dec. so all in all not bad winter conditions this far north. We live in a mini climate area affected greatly by the gulf stream and prevaling weather patterns. This is not typical but in general winters here have very little snow --about two to three weeks of frost in Feb. and by middle of march it beginning of spring weather. June is usually fog month but we can get bouts of fog thruout summer. This is my only fault with the place - very little to no fog Stephenville/Corner Brook area of NFLD. No place is perfect.

I guess maybe Boston is right about global warming, or maybe a pole shift is ocurring. Nova Scotia warmer in winter than Florida? Imagine!
