Crowther 37 Tempest Trimaran Drawings/Study Plans

Hi,

for a redesign project on a Crowther 37 Tempest trimaran I need some drawings of the boat.
As it is a fairly old design, I hope someone can help with some scans.

I need especially a deckplan showing the superstructure & cockpit in plan view and a sailplan.
A longitudinal section would be awesome too. I have a profile drawing and a typical crossection from "Maelstrom" which I believe is the same type.

Studyplan quality would suffice, as I will not need to produce production plans from the plans.

Further I wonder if anyone has some thoughts on the plan of how squaring the bows off (in profile) might influence the boats behaviour. As the boat in question already had its stern lengthened, I would suspect that adding some area in the forefoot should not put her very much out of balance. I will of course check the centers of sail & lateralplan position before doing this.
I am also considering a daggerboard in the Amas.

Last but not least, has anybody an idea who makes good plywood wingmasts in Europe? Alternatively who has good drawings for building such a mast?

It's also a stern lengthened 33. If that's not your boat than maybe the owner (post #53) of the one for sale has some more info.

If you have the boat from the north Adriatic, are you going to sail her to Hamburg?

Before I want to see if I could get her to look decent (not from the back, she is already sexy there). The front of the doghouse looks terrible though.

There are not to many stern lengthened Tempests I think. Here in post #8 & #11 some talk about 'Nomad' which is also a stern lengthened 33, and in post #16 & #33 a 33' with a better looking doghouse, maybe that owner has some info for you.

Many thanks, yes the sailplan is very handy to have! As of the deckplan I am still hunting for one.

I'll try to get in touch with Buckster, his doghouse is much more pretty then the one of the boat I consider.
Regarding the sail from Italy to Germany, yes it is a long way and that is the biggest obstacle right now. If the boat would be in Brittany or closer the decision would be much easier.

Funny enough I lived in Slovenia (and kept a racing cat in Izola) til 2004.

Maybe I'd have to sail from Italy to Gibraltar or Tunesia one summer and then do the rest the following. Deck freight is no option as it costs 23000€.....

A note. Aquaris aka Wellenlaufer was lost at sea within site of land in realatively calm conditions just off the coast to Portugal. Not at all sure I have enough of the story to comment. I think it is a reminder to be very carefull about who to let take charge of a boat.

Sad to see such a great boat end so bably. How do you sink a wood boat? NO signs of wood or hull damage or failure.

Very very sad news, my trimaran Aquaris has by now been most likely to a large extend been destroyed by wind, waves & towing trials. The crew is save on shore, but the insurance company decided yesterday, that it is not worth an expensive salvage operation with divers and the like.


Peter tried yesterday, with the help of the maritime police and some heavy pumps to lift her enough to tow her to a port. Still the waves were to big and the pumps to small. So the insurances expert gave the order to set her adrift until monday at least.
If someone manages to tow her to port until then, we may try to negotiate, but the insurance expert and Peters description instill very little hope on me, that anything substantial can be salvaged, which is worth beeing shipped home.


It seems like my childhood dream is lost. I am happy though, that at least Christopher had a chance to make a last & wonderful sailing trip on her. She had a lot of potential.

I must be one of the very few boat owners, who lost their boat without ever having had a chance to sail on it.
Still, I will work hard to start from scratch working on my dream!!!

So, as I understand it now . . . . .

- Mast came down, circumstances and why is unknown for now . . . .

- Crew tried to set up a jury rig but failed.

- There was assistance it seems, the tow in the middle paragraph, but why not till they reached port . . . . .

- Don't know what happened to the outboard motor . . . .

Anybody who has info (Franziska ?) please post . . . .
