Hey...some Chinese stuff is perfectly good. I recently purchased a 20 dollar pair of blue work overalls made in china.

Great big pockets, reinforced knees and sporty styling suitable for visiting the coffee shop at break time or strutting thru town on hardware runs.

 

could be but I'd just assume buy locally even if its a bit more expensive.

Is it just Chinese goods that annoy you or just anything not made by Americans?? It's hard to tell.

on no not at all, its not nationalism its just trying to help out the local economy wherever I am. It means less transport costs and less pollution associated with that transport. I'm not the flag waving type at all. I'm just thinking that stuff made locally helps my neighbors stay afloat and end up coming back to me in terms of my own business.

I avoid Chinese stuff cause I've had such bad luck with it, that ant its notoriously bad rep in terms of its quality

 

Nothing wrong with purchasing locally. Much of that chinese stuff is classic dumping. The complication to morals is cost. Not long ago I needed to mount a 4 meter long silicone rubber gasket. To glue this gasket into the frame I needed to purchase 40, 4inch , C clamps. I went to one of those...everything from china... home improvement centers and purchased steel c clamps for 65 cents each.. Im not kidding 65 cents per clamp !!!!!!!!!!!! Its dumping.

 

Maybe your just to rough on your equipment Boston and demand High Quality Metal
and if you want quality than you pay the extra bucks and if you feel better than your sailing experience is going to be better...... I mean..there's no point buying something that your just not going to be happy with, you might as well give it away all-together.

its getting there but unfortunately its still a bit out of my price range at the moment. I could use a few more projects before I can really consider what I might build. This thing is pretty much just a concept study at this point. I've got a commuter style I really like and this is really quite the deviation from it. Once I get the thing all planned out I'll compare it to that in terms of construction and operating costs, maintenance, parking fees, see what I come up with.

 

Parking fees Grrr, I rang up everywhere in advance for a spot for that 50 foot simpson project and a few laughed and a couple took my name but said we can't guarantee a spot and it was 2 years later when i got a call...

 

Thats the way you get a great boat...keep sketching, doodling, dreaming estimating......

Also worthwhile to take a few trips to the coast for "Boots on the deck" observations.
