Yes! Too often we men, when assessing a woman as a life partner, aren't thinking with the 'BIG' head.

    There's another old wisdom saying.

"If it floats, f***s or flies, rent - don't buy".

Certainly renting boats is less stress and problems. When your charter is over, the boat is no longer your concern.
But, building or modifying a boat to custom fit your personal needs is satisfying and requires you to be the owner.

Perhaps - personally I wouldn't take on a woman or a boat that didn't have enough qualities to justify a lifetime of care. Things may change, but there's no point starting down a road that you already know will lead you nowhere.

Its like business - never sign a contract with anyone where a handshake wouldn't have been good enough in the first place.

Fortunately I chose well. My wife and I are healthy, happy, and still in love.

Well done - its great to hear of success.

I reckon if you are still both talking to each other after 20+ years, its a success :)

Actually, when the kids were born, like many dads, I was hoping the goldfish would die so I could move up a level in my wife's affections.
When the kids all left, she was all mine once again.

Very true experience - but I think most dads would look back and be thankful that the kids got the care that only a dedicated mother can give, in hindsight.

Life is very clever like that.

Oh, I love my children! It was just a shock, as a comparitively young man, to discover that I not only wasn't 1st priority anymore, I was bottom of the list! :D Growing up is hard to do when you're 35. I'm 13 years older than my wife. :p

    - me too! But when the goldfish died the cat took over that position - the cat always denied having anything to do with it, by the way. Then we got dogs who turned out to be even better than the cat at garnering affection, and their still doing it after several generations. Still low man on the totem pole, but at least I know what a chine is . . .
