Turmoil in Egypt

It is going to be a problem for Egypt in the very near future.

The majority seem to want religious parties, but that will doom Egypt
to a long period of poverty unless they can come up with something
to produce that the world wants.

It is sad to see the country lurch from a bunch of corrupt politicians and
brutal military leaders with private golf-courses, to very conservative,
divisive religious types.

 

Several European countries have done quite well with a Christian Democratic party in the government; Germany is one. It's still too early to abandon the hope that the Muslim Brotherhood can be a muslim version of the Christian Democrats, and that they can separate politics from religion.

Germany: once a major player in the Holy Roman Empire, birthplace of Father Martin Luther and in turn birthplace of the Protestant Reformation which helped counteract the corrupt Roman Catholic Regeme in Rome.(Thank You Martin) Today Germany is, as far as I know the only country in the world that in addition to, property tax, sales tax, income tax, inheritance tax, ???? tax also charges a 10% religious tax to every citizen to support the countrys religions. The only way to avoid it is to appear before the courts and swear that you are an athiest.(that you oppose a God) If thats not religious induced opression what is? Thank you for the opportunity of allowing me to give this example of how organized religion interfers with freedom of the individual.

P.S. The majority of Germans are of the Roman Catholic Faith-- thus thru taxation of all citizens it promotes that faith over all others (power in numbers) involving that religion in greater numbers in the political running of the country.Children of the Roman Catholic Faith( as well as most other faiths) are taught that theirs is the only true religion in the world--so EXAMPLE ONLY : if you were a German Catholic in a position of political power and you had to choose between a Protestant and a Catholic --from your religious teachings to please your church and please your god -- which one are you more inclinded to choose ??? This is how organized religion can and possibly do( example only) destroy the freedom of the individuals.To protect a democracy organized religion above all else has to be 100% supressed in the running of a country.(total seperation of church and state) I never vote for a politicion that promotes his church attendance in his campains. He then has two reasons for my mistrust.

I guess most of us want peace with ourself and others, thats the fundamental driving force of all humanity (not counting people in power), the method one chooses to reach that peace changes for religion, beliefs, way of life etc...
When we look at it our differences do not stem from our fundamental core but rather the subsequent stages.

I am honestly trying to reshuffle my life just in case of a "worst case scenario". I am trying to establish work in another countries in case i need to get out of here (a very very worst case scenario i hope and something i would do out of absolute necessity...).
Lets just see how things will roll out .....

Only I don't need scriptures , whaling walls, unbelievably stupid circumcision, frequent visits to holy places or silly little hats or any kind of religion to do that. However I don't want to convert you, I would be disappointed in myself if I did.

I try every day to be better than I was yesterday, not just to meet the requirements of a religion or a vicar. I can exceed that on my own , on my own 2 feet. My religion is 'me' its called Humanity.

Now ---if all Egypt was like me there would be no fighting.

Well i got very kind messages asking how i am, i am truly touched by the concern and kind words. It has been a long time since i posted but i was very busy putting things back together and struggling to keep going forward. Alas it has decimated my hopes and dreams of building my own boat, however i will keep at it ... its on my bucket list!

Media is blowing things out of proportion, however i have had at least 3 of my friends face very bad incidents including being shot at. Still over all there is a sense of comfort some how and its safe to move around if you avoid the sensitive areas.

It seems that after so many years of being silent every one is shouting at the same time, making sense or not their goals are to be heard. Although its blowing steam its not really moving us forward.
The political game is as ugly as it usually is, players all trying to scramble for power under all sorts of names. Out of the current 2 running, i would not choose either.

The major problem being uncertainty and instability, it is very difficult to forecast what will happen as the 2 candidates have extremely different agendas both of which are not promising at all ... however keeping that in mind in comparison i would slightly shift towards Shafeek, he has a managerial and business mind set (which is functioning very poorly).

Again thanks for your PM folks, its very nice and kind of you to keep Egypt in your thoughts...

 

Thank's for posting, I've wondered how you were doing. One of my children that was over there in late 2010 told me Egyptians were among the most gracious people she has ever met in her travels.

 

Egypt is a very complex country, we have all sorts of problems but to be honest even after the problems we faced past 2 years, i reach a conclusion that i would never want to live any where else. So i guess we will just put on our helmets and brace for impact !
I would agree completely on your child's statement, specially in the villages and areas that still retain their old traditions and ethical roots ...

Try 9 official languages, dictated by a police controlled communist government, run on a capitalist foundation with a socialist expectation, not to mention the crime and corruption, renaming of towns, cities and streets to unexpressionable names out of insecurity, changing of even history, and where the zombies streaming in from all over the continent to have the votes to remain in a power position where about 6% of the population are expected to pay for the 94%.
