another feat of engineering genius, i was a bit concerned about the high impact windows allowing a clear view underwater though. maybe we need a thread dedicated to showcasing all these wonderfull machines.

Got to appreciate this guys project,but it does seem to be at the point where the technics are due to be considered.The design looks great,but getting it to fly is another thing.Bit of a "Mad Max"project I reckon.
I wont be in the market as the test pilot thats for sure.Haha
Parachutes are out,helicopters are in a dead fall with no power.

This guy is pretty amazing for the amount of energy and determination he's got with these projects, I just wish he'd get some design engineering input, so all that energy and resource achieved something that worked. I feel a combination of admiration and sadness really.

Well, after the first visual impact of that wanabe helicopter, now that I saw these I'm really amazed. His work is something in between engineering and art, and imho shouldn't be judged too technically. If I ever met him I'd shake his handand and praised him for all that effort!

appears to be straight steel, thus heavy and really not strong.

Might be OK for a mock-up of a real one, just to get all the part clearances worked out, so you don't end up ruining an aluminum frame with roughing-in mistakes, or for ground school.

Be great for a playground. I always envied those kids that had real scrapped jet fighters in their playgrounds.



Or he could learn CAD.

The main issue I'd be frightened of is that Briggs and Stratton roto tiller engine that you bet your life on when piloting the helicopter. Yikes!

 

That heli will actually be quite safe-with a 16 hp Briggs,welded steel frame,transmissions,etc, and a ~180 pound guy it will never get off the ground.

A friend is into helis, IIRC you need 1 hp for every 5 pounds of craft weight.
