Choose something unique but still pronounceable.
When it's big enough to have a vhf, make sure you aren't embarrassed to say the name over the radio and don't have to repeat it 10 times ;)

I you have any sense about you, particularly if they're covering some of the costs and putting up with your boat building antics, name it after mom or a girl friend.

Ask yourself how the name will sound when broadcast, three times in a row, for everyone to hear.
Too many owners try to come up with a cute double entendre that sounds just plain stupid to the rest of the world. Byachtch, Loon Ranger, Maid of Plywood and Wet Dream are examples of names that should never have made it beyond the cocktail napkin they were first written on.

If the one you're trying to hook up with, hangs around a VHF or SSB a lot . . .

"SKIFFY FOUR TEEN" Well, if it's for a teenager I suppose.

How do you name a baby?

If you'd like I can point you to a place with nothing but boat names. Of course this isn't much help, unless you have an idea of what you want.

On 14' skiffs, the vast majority aren't named, though "U old *****" is often heard in conversations about them, typically on or about the 15th consecutive pull of the starter rope. Then again this is also what I call my ex-wife, so go figure. Now that I think of it, they have remarkable similarities. They both are long butted things, lacking style and showing some age. I digress.

"CrabTrap" is a favorite if you're looking to have fun in multiple arenas (you can get shots for one). Personally, when I was your age, I didn't get the shots. I cultivated the little live stock and when I had about a quart jar full, I made cookies for all the people that pissed me off in the last year. Everyone thought they were raisins, as I informed them of the high protein content.

If you want to use your experiences with ex-wives in the name, why not be original and use names from their perspective, e.g.
    Lush
    Dead Beat
    Misogynist
    Inadequate
    Ignoranus
    Black-eye Pay Day

I'm sure you can find others in your Court documents :)
