So the Hydroptere crew have swung back to their original trimaran foiler concept. Big 50% wing mast too, slightly catenary front and rear ... and heavy rake, I wonder why? They'll have done it for a reason.

Maybe we're seeing the results of what they learned on Hydroptere.ch? A couple of posts back it was still a larger version of .ch......

 

I wonder with the raked rig whether they are trying to keep the CE well aft? Hydroptere.ch must have yielded some useful data on what path to take. My guess is that they found the vestigal hull style structure didnt offer the required performance in low wind conditions which is something you encounter on round the world runs.

Looking at the video of BPV's main hull beam interface you can see real savings in weight there. It stands to reason rather than having a beam trench make the beam part of the main hull structure elegant engineering.

Banque Populaire V has set the bar awfully high! It's going to be a tremendous technical mountain to climb for the Hydroptere Maxi team-they're going to have to fly most of the way around. Sure going to be interesting to follow......

 

Another difference it appears; the main hull has no rudder, each float carries one instead. Actually this rendering looks very similar to David Alan-Williams 60 foot tri Steinlager 1 from way back in the 1980's; that is, apart from the large foils and mast rake - but the semi X beams, although floats are different, large wing mast and cabin shape looks very Steinie-like.
Ah well, all multihulls look the bloody same, eh?

Gary, look at the Libryd(Hydroptere maxi) again paying particular attention to the foils. No way are they properly drawn unless they are being shown partially retracted. They simply aren't deep enough which makes me think that drawing may not be the actual boat at all.
