Hello everyone

I need some good fellow to knock up a super simple single-chined hull line drawing for a 63 foot Phinisi/Dhow/Schooner (HULL ONLY). Im hoping to collect drift wood and or reclaiming old barn wood for this project. Can't steam bend anything. THIS IS AN MEGA ULTRA LOW $/MINIMAL TIME PROJECT Im hoping to get the local media do a story on it...kinda like a green project of sorts...preesh!

Heres my version but I dont know if the chines are right. Im have trouble at the stern area. there is no need for a skeg/rudder because there is a twin rudder setup. Sorry I am not a professional designer. Any suggestions?

Full Model

Heres the full wire drawing...I inverted the half hull to get the exact dimensions on the other half...the overall beam at the moment is 16' and some change. Is this too narrow for a boat this long?

LWL is 50.722ft
LOD is 58.171ft
overall length a whopping 92.261ft (the bowsprit alone is 20.80ft!)

the beam at the chine is 13.377ft

dont have tonnage yet

any suggestions?

I seem to barely have 6ft below decks..not alot for a boat so large...I was hoping to get at least 7ft standing head room. Any suggestions?

Yes. If you start scouring the internet, you'll find all sorts of stuff about phinisis-- both traditional phinisi schooners, modern powered versions, and take-offs designed as yachts and/or charter boats. You'll quickly realize that you can build a phinisi -- OR you can build a single-chine sailboat that somewhat resembles one above the waterline.

Traditional phinisi hull shapes and construction methods are about as simple and practical as it gets for a seaworthy vessel; why would you want to go single-chine instead?

 

Lets see, no budget, no time and extremely limited design skills, certainly no hydrodynamics or structural consideration, all on an 18 meter yacht. Hummmmmm, I wonder how this is going to turn out. Typically, visions of large yachts, with no money, no time and no skills is little more then a fantasy. Why are you going to be different then this truism?

Save your money, buy some design books, get some experience, then apply for the job when you are prepared. Frankly you sound like Herman Cain, ill prepared, insufficiently educated on the various disciplines necessary to be effective and kidding yourself that you actually can do this. Maybe a bit harsh, especially if you're a Herman Cain fan, and if you are a Cain fan, then I rest my case, as there's no advice to help you. If not, you need an education and some experience. Finding standing headroom in a nearly 60' yacht isn't difficult and honestly, if having this type of difficulty, then you're in so way over your head. You need to just stop, place the drawings in a file for now and pull them out after you've digested a copy of "Principles of Yacht Design", at which time, you can have a good laugh.

 

aie aie aie... another floating disaster on the pipe ..with drift wood ? , nice to save the planet.
please don't do this in sulawasi or in indonesia, they have already too bad habit with this type of project..

Thank you. I went with a single chine to avoid steam bending should I do more chines?

 

Thanks for the input. I am only in the designing stage at the moment. The actual building is a whole other story. Maybe it will get built maybe it wont. Meanwhile, would you care to review my drawings further and give your professional opinion on the drawing itself? I am here to learn...

Many tons of wood is washed up in our beaches. Why not use it?

 

The design you've shown above is full of issues, many serious and frankly too numerous to list.

There is no such thing for a 19 meter yacht.

working on the keel

eeked some more standing head room by getting rid of the flat deck and adding sheer

got 2 more feet out of the beam

added more meat to the keel aft

too much rake at the transom going to tone it down a bit

reducing headroom in the pilot house roof

any suggestions?
