I'm shocked. Not so much shocked, since I've lived in NY and know the NYPD kills people on a regular basis without reason, but just shocked they'd corral up, then mace a peaceful group of women protesting,

This country is really getting out of hand.

    This isn't right.

Then, of course there is this guy, who had mental problems and was beaten to death in Fullerton, CA by police.

If that had happened in Peking(Beijing) they would have been crushed by tanks or machine-gunned. Who says NYPD is heartless?

    Mace is good on ham.

This isn't China. Nobody should feel lucky to get away with being trapped, then Maced for no reason other than expressing their opinion.

We have become a police state with a limit placed upon our freedom of speech among other things. NY has tried to be a utopia which provides everything at great cost to everyone.

The government that can provide you with everything can deprive you of everything as well.

Limited government is the only answer. Should supply basic needs for the common defence, health and commerce and nothing more.

I don't know what the protest was for, but that doesn't matter. The right of peaceful protest or expression of grievances is elemental and fundamental to our U.S. Constitution and must be respected, even by Bloomberg.

Let's not get too carried away. This sort of thing, and the beating death of the homeless guy, are still aberrations -- not standard procedure. Let's not tar every cop in the country because of some douche bags with a badge, OK?

The Orange Country DA's office has filed murder charges against two of the cops involved in the Fullerton beating death. That does mean something, you know. Beating people to death on the street instead of arresting them isn't considered acceptable behavior, even in the most conservative and reactionary county in California.

Yeah, I shouldn't have grouped the California incident in. My main beef was the mace job on those women for standing there expressing an opinion.

    Two very different incidents.

I'm definitely for less government too, Hoyt.

And what pray tell does this have to do with anything even remotely boat? Please leave this to the forums that cater to it. It really has no place here. This forum is turning into the bilge at Woodenboat and I think one such stinking place is really more than enough.

    What is your problem?

This off topic area is loaded with stuff like this. I make tons of on topic posts.

Why are you singling me out?

I can see where Lewisboats is coming from, but he is not correct.

At work, at leisure, wherever we meet fellow citizens, we have a need to communicate our feelings about whatever troubles our minds. Otherwise we would all go mad.

Most people understand that power corrupts and when the police start acting in an agressive manner towards protesters then people have a right to speak out. It's not easy being a policeman, but when they go over the line they have to be called to account.

In the UK we are still waiting for charges to be brought against this policeman, his victim was an innocent passer-by.

There are cops of different kinds, some not worth the badge they carry. It looks to me that the spray was coming from just one source, so it was probably an action taken by a single individual.
Also, if you watch the reaction of the bald cop in front of the camera and his nearby mates, they appear to be surprized by macing and disapproving it.
    Cheers

That said, I reckon that it's easy to comment a video of this kind while sitting at home in a comfortable chair. If I was there and saw my sister, mother or girlfriend on the ground because of one ********'s decision, I would have certainly reacted differently - perhaps even volently. But then again, it would be unjust towards cops like the bald one.
The NYPD has to resolve this and make sure it doesn't happen again.

I found an interesting definition in the book "A Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue".
nincompoop (n): One who has never seen his wife's ****.

The asterisks are in the book, and not due to bdn's censorship.

    I'm guessing. **** = boat?
