    ...most influential/enduring production designs?

The 53' Hatteras MY has to be there, right? Some for the 42' Banks. Probably the 31' Bertram SF.

What are some others that you consider timeless?

Any of Riva boats, before they switched to grp.
Benetti navetta yachts of 70's - but I think the new Benetti Sail Division models will leave a sign too:

I also like the look of many Feadship models.

Ya...those are nice production boats. Dont forget the trusty Boston Whaler. And dont forget the custom " Type " yachts. Those Florida sportfishers Merit, Rybovich are famous around the world and those guys up in Maine build beautiful motoryachts

In 2007 Yachting Magazine published a collection of what they termed "Best Boats, the top yachts of the past 100 years."

    The list is rather Americacentric.......

    Dorade
    Riva Aquarama
Carinthia IV (John Bannenberg & Lurssen)
    Sequoia (John Trumpy design)
    Ticonderoga
    Miss Chevy II (Rybovich design)
Grand Banks 42 Classic (even though the 36 came before)
    Hinckley Picnic Boat
    Wallygator
    Rosenkavlier (Cox and Stevens design)
    Orange II
    Running Tide
    Nabila
Hyperion (I can't see this at all?)
    Hatteras 53
    Gar Wood 70, Cigarette (1923)
Maltese Falcon (not real influential yet?)
Burger 64 (filler....all they could think of?)
    Bertram 31
    Aphrodite III

    Ganbare (changed the IOR game)
SC 70 (or any other early Bill Lee "Fast is Fun" design)
    Laser
    C&C 35
    Australia II

Yes..the Laser. The first sportboat for the people. And mustn't forget the most famous of them all..The windsurfer. And for elegance designs like Hot Flash or Swampfire from Gary Mull.

    Hobie cats.

Do one thing, so it well, especially if that one thing is going fast.

    on the enduring side--

Star, Lightning, Rebel 16 (America's first production sailboat designed for frp construction and still a hoot), A class scow, Marshall cat, Pacific Seacraft 37.

My own Catalina 38 was designed as a one off around 1970 and subsequently went into production until '92; which is pretty remarkable for an IOR rule boat. It went out of production when the mold finally gave up its ghost after nearly four hundred hulls (30 Yankee and 366 Catalina).

I suppose the rest of the Island packet line is good enough reason to add the IP27 to the list. They never should have stopped that one.

    I would submit that.....

The question involved production designs (can there be a production run of one?)

The Best designs are one thing....(What are the criteria for best?)

The Most Influential (influential on who or what?) are another thing....

And the Most Enduring designs are something different again.....

    IMP-ish powerboater

Glad to see the Donzi 16.

A Cigarette 35 or 38 should be on the list too.
It put "cigarette boat" into the popular culture.

And you have to admit that designs commisioned by Wally Yachts are INFLUENTIAL. Simply look at how many other designers have re interpreted the Wally Tender .
