Me! As the throttleman the skill is anticipating the boat leaving the water and reduce the throttles - the next bit of the skill is getting back on the throttles before losing turbo boost. The really tricky bit is balancing achieving the best average speed versus time in the air and damaging the boat from landing too hard. Of course the engines have rev limiters as well, but they don't like being run on the limiter all day!

As an aside we have three crew - driver who has navigation information fed to him via the Raymarine ST70+'s (two), the throttleman has an E140 wide-screen with engine data - this screen can also show all of the nav data, engine room or rear view cameras, and in the third seat is the navigator also with an E140 whose job is to tell us all which way to go - every time he changes waypoint the drivers displays change to give the driver all the information he needs.

Mr Tapping was on form as usual:

Rather like this one - the boat in the background is the first of the BananaShark layup Phantom 19's we made for Graham Lawton with which he won the 2010 OCR National Championships - hope we can be as successful in the new boat!

It was a shame Chris Strickland broke down - it was interesting to see how he was doing compared to us for a while ......

Sir, it would appear you are flying a distress signal on the stern of your boat.

Our sticker man has been heavily beaten - it wouldn't be so bad but the stickers were handed so the other one is wrong as well!

Luckily the coastguard or lifeboats aren't going to catch us unless we slow down a lot!

Most Americans wouldn't have known the difference(flag upside down). I had to look it up to be sure. :)

x2. I thought it was symmetrical. But still, that makes a pretty sorry distress signal if you have to look that close to tell :D.

During the eightiesI was an aux coastguard at Southbourne overlooking the bay where this race took place. I never saw this as a distress signal ,nor a burning barrel of pitch or tar. Just can't resist a legpull.

The boat is looking even better now we have the "Bustle" fitted over the drives - it lengthens the boat considerably and finishes the design off. This was taken entering Charlestown last weekend - the 41 mile return trip to Salcombe was in 15' high breaking waves with rain squalls and lightening, we even took part in helping out a yacht in some distress (pan pan not a Mayday), and the boat performed faultlessly - to say we are very happy would be an understatement! The black triangle is the exhaust :)

I'm happy to see you fixed the flag, too. The boat looks great and would make any rum-runner proud.

But recent events make me wonder if the upside down flag might not be right for the situation in Britain at present.

First my disclaimer: I think you folks are out of your minds to begin with, for even doing what you're doing.:D

But in spite of my prejudices towards sails and oars, this is one of my favorite threads on the forum. I check it out religiously, and vicariously enjoy your successes as you plow ahead.:)

With the drive fairing, it does look even sleeker. Your happiness with it is well deserved! Great boat!

We had a fantastic weekend, lots of people got a ride in the boat and the party at the Island Street bar and Grill was also packed - apparently they broke the record for the number of covers in one night! Tim Tapping was on hand to record the event and a bloody good job he did too!

    My favourite:

The stripes and the extension make the boat look even longer now!
