The weight of paint

This is a good thread. I think Frosty's got a good point about the paint, especially heavy copper anti fouling paint. Multihull guys are always watching for excess weight. This reminds me to be as careful with paint as I have been with everything else.

 

CatBuilder, this IS an excellent thread. You've finally caught on. Stop using heavy copper based bottom paint and you're going to save at least five, maybe even 10 pounds!

Its anti foul I had in mind. Picking up mu usuall order of 4 gallons I can hardly walk with it. and as It was 4 gallons two years before I got to thinking thats like 100 kilos of paint.

I don't use copper thats much much heavier.

By the way that 4 imperial galls 4.4 liters not the Us 3.8

 

10 lbs? You are either converting from kgs wrong or talking about painting the glass part of an 8ft rib.

Ever picked up a can of high quality bottom paint, such as my favorite brand, Petit?

 

And just imagine 10 years worth of non ablative paint. Yikes that would weigh a lot.

ya can't be serious, besides, this ones pretty self reliant. Myself Liz Kelly and Sean. Kelly and Sean just got married and Liz and I helped set up/tear down the reception. Ended up quite the party.



My summer weekends are mostly spent at the Renaissance festival for obvious reasons

Thing holding up the boat at the moment is the truck being in pieces all over the shop. Waiting for Stans headers to get there heads out of there buts and send me the right headers. The motor oil conversion worked out so well that I decided to rebuild the entire truck, use it as a primary vehicle. Things should be back on track in about 2 or 3 weeks. Between working all week, trying to sell the patent and Faire its been a busy summer.

didn't realize paint could be so heavy tho. I was about to try and figure out the same thing on epoxy so I can get a better idea of what my build displaces.
