With a young lady, tip it over and a good excuse to come aboard remove wet clothes and get warm & dry?

Groceries ... What groceries that would be spoilt in a capsize? beer (nup - bottled), other booze and mixers (nup - bottled of tinned), fresh fruit - a good washing never hurts - and ripen that hand of bananas... What else? ... Meat is in tins, fish is from the sea, water from the rain or carried in waterproof containers...

    So what are the disadvantages?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/06/16/3245449.htm?section=justin "Kimberley graziers hold 'crisis talks'"

The stupidity of the government in crisis, making "decisions on the run" to appease the pollsters, is a big sign post marking the beginning of the end for the Labour Party in government...

Will the "opposition" be any better? - I have my doubts, all cut from the same cloth made from the same rotting thread of inexperience and incompetence...

The cattle are sold to "feed-lots" in Indonesia, and are as near perfect in their treatment of the livestock as can be achieved... The feed-lots sell to accredited operators who on-sell and supply the small community based abattoirs...

So... Who the bloody hell do these so-called "do-gooders" blame for the ills they videoed? Obviously not the guilty parties... NOR DO THEY EVEN TRY TO RECTIFY the situation they witnessed and promoted as draw-dropping cruelty to animals... AND THEY DID NOTHING?... Even war criminals know that is not a defensive position... I am susceptible to the idea that the "action" may have been "hammed-up" for the benefit of the camera...

The "doo-gooders" certainly had a big reaction and cost Australia lots in stupid responses...

They were "Presidential candidates"? for where/what... and I thought Australian Politicians were useless... - Well yes, in Australia the politicians would not likely know or have a capacity to answer the questions I heard posed... Australian politicians refrain from living in the "real world" and would not know the price of a dozen 'free-range-eggs' compared to 'cage-eggs' - or - how much is a loaf of bread, - or - how much is a bottle of milk and so on... Were the questions intended as "intellectual-INSULTS" to aspiring leaders of USA? - - - WTF... - - Talk about 'dumbing-down'...

I guess Senator Ron Paul would be the only aspirant with some carefully considered policy direction, global and local economics understanding, and a foreign policy consideration that would enhance the prospects of the middle class in USA...

Mum's pension got sorted and back-payments will be made to 28 Jan...

    **____________________*****____________________**

Saturday 18 June looks like a propitious day to depart...
    - First scheduled stop is in the lee of Double Island Point, before heading across to the way-points to work the leads in to the Great Sandy Strait which will take me up to Hervey Bay, behind Frazer Island...

    - Second scheduled stop will be "Tin Can Bay" to load as much fuel as I can... I plan to do about 90 miles a day and anchor up overnight...

Eventual destination is Cairns, from which I will clear Customs for PNG... I hope it will eventuate that I can do some good where it is needed and appreciated...

Well, that is all hypothetically speaking as the "narrow rowing boat" is Dougs, and would have to be the best "exercise machine" I have seen... I am on a cat and will anchor up in the relative shallows - out of the road of any anchor dragging bathtubs or other forms of "oceanic ploughs" trying to emulate Moses - but no chance there...

Hypothetically speaking, for me, any capsizes or cargo "spills" would be in recoverable shallow waters (not yet waist deep)...

I note that our Australian TV must read this thread because "commentary" last night related to politicians being swayed and changing policy according to "opinion polls" - toned down from what I said... News gatherers slow/asleep at the wheel still? Jeees I am sick of this Pusedo-Reality-Crap presented as news...

I await with great anticipation of some ground breaking theory why dry joints can not be soldered.

I will not however be sitting on the edge of my seat when reading it but I might find some amusement in it.

frosty a "dry joint" is a solder joint that has not bonded properly between two metal surfaces, usually because a metal surface was not heated enough before applying the solder, or the solder was applied with the wrong amount of heat. the result is a brittle aerated blob of solder that does not conduct very well and encourages heat to build up, which in turn makes the solder more and more brittle until it cracks if it hasn't already broken away from the surface it was supposed to be bonded to, and then Mas would wake up to the sound of his radar alarm when a huge ship is heading straight towards him and when he tries to start the engine it would most likely explode into flames and set fire to the life raft.

I particularly liked the "explode into flames just before getting run down by a super tanker" part. But really a little flux goes a long way when soldering anything, that and a turbotorch, depends on what it is I guess, heating iron and heat sinks if its delicate wires. Dry soldering is always a bad idea but dry soldering a joint in a system like on an engine is a really bad idea, I crimp connect all my stuff with UL connectors which limits soldering issues and allows you to disconnect things a lot easier although something tells me he's got connectors everywhere on that thing, or at least he does now. Should have in the first place but thats the manufactures mistake not yours Mass so I hope they fixed it NC.

I'd suspect any long run of wire of anything heavy thats just attached with a soldered joint. Its not meant to be structural stuff. Works great for circuit boards but on a wiring loom or anything subject to a lot of vibrations, not so much.

I'm also a big fan of fusible links ahead of anything major, I have two on my fuel processing tank one for each major component. Works like a charm and if something does screw up it doesn't take anything else with it. Just an idea, fuse boxes are nice but fusible links isolate stuff much better. They even have them with little indicator lights, costs all of about a buck more than without.

Darn I forgot to call Daniel and see what he's up to
was it this thread that someone identified his web site
I remember it had his phone number on it
we need to get him back over here so he can tell us whats up with his build

    cheers
