Toughness is not really a technical term. What exactly do you want to increase? There are several types of fiberglass and resins that can be used. All of them have different characteristics. Laminates are designed for specific uses. For example, what can be considered tough for abrasion resistance may be too brittle and stiff for a fishing rod.

I want to use fiberglass for the hull of the boat and I want the hull to be strong

Is a normal method to make fiberglass good and tough enough for the hull?

I know how to make fiberglass but I am not sure
if the steps not correct please correct it
first I layed the fiberglass in the Hull of boat
then I paint it by epoxy
after that I mixed the resin and filler together and put it in the hull

    Is it correct?

Some more specific please.. Are you repairing a boat, inside or outside? Or perhaps building a new one?

Yaasaay, you're kidding right? Do yourself a big favor and buy some boat construction books, in the medium you desire ('glass). Once you get a handle on the terms, methods, techniques and practices, you can come back with some specific questions about issues you have. Currently you're asking for a reference volume of 'glass boat building methodology, which is way out of the scope of this format.

    I'm really serious

I have some books from the internet but not good to that because in my region you can't find books talk about boat and I am begginer in this things
May be you will laugh but the try is better than not to try

I have some question can you answer me

1- After I finish the structure of the boat what should I do?

2- Is covered the hull by fiberglass enough to resist water?

3- I finished the structure but the structure not strong to that So do you think if I cover the hull and the other parts of the boat it will be enough to make it strong and durable

4- the structure has some holes so is the holes will solved by fiberglass or not?

    I will wait your response

    regards

You have to understand material properties, engineering and yacht design to accomplish what you are attempting. You clearly don't have a solid grasp on any of these subjects, so the only advise anyone should be offering is the various texts and courses available to cover the subjects involved.

Do you fully understand what toughness for a material means?

YOU NEED TO TELL US WHAT YOU ARE REFERING TO IN THE WAY OF TOUGHNESS ?????

Resin and filler BE A BIT MORE SPECIFIC !
Using resin to make filler ????
    what are you filling ??
Theres lots recipies for fillers depending on what its used for !!There not to many things you need to make all the differant fillers but need to know what its being used for !.

Ok from where can I understand material properties do you have sites for this
and for the fiberglass do you have sites explain it with details

    -------------

I am not sure but I mean By toughness whereby if we Standing
in it, it will be strong and not easy to break
if I Misunderstood please correct me

    --------------

    thanks for any replies

The toughness of a material is defined as the ability of a smooth, unnotched member to absorb energy. Notch toughness, is defined as the ability of a material to absorb energy in the presence of a flaw.

    How tough is tough
One surf life saving inflatable with a ridged bottom the interior floor that the guys stood and sat on was one layer of 800 gram double bias glass with a 225 gram chopped stand matt against the gel coat . How did it get it strength ? First it was stuck around all sides ! second the floor was not flat but had a curve from one end to the other . thirdly the guys had bare feet all the time and needed a floor with a little bit of softness to it . spring !!even with a 1/2 of foam on top it was still quite hard to fall on . The boat were only 3.8 meters long but would some times have 5 adults inside sitting and standing on the floor . simply Just one layer of glass !!!!
What do you know about twist and flex ?? They are not the same a panel can flex without twist . a hull can twist without flex !!! Get what i mean ??? this sort f goes hand in hand with toughness !!!.
I say you need to know the capabilities of the materials you are working with !! The biggest boats i have seen made purely from chopped strand glass from a chopper gun were 36 feet long . had no woven or stitched materials at all in any part of the boat .
The purely toughest hull i ever bult was simply 4 layers of 400 gram unidirectional glass with a 150gramm chopped strand matt between eac layer . . The secret is in the oriantation that the glass fibres were running at . Know you materials !!!!:D

    thanks tunnels

really what didn't I know is the capacity of the material

I understand from you the board with paint by these materials can have 3 or 5 adult even if it not thick to that

and can you answer the picture its important for me please
