    Thanks Hoyt!

OK, here some web pics from last year to harvest clues from and to keep yourself amused while I'm away . . :)

(I will honour the photographer with a link after it's found)

    1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg 5.jpg 6.jpg *

    * these are the dots on the building

The building is on the same spot as the one in the historic pic which was lost in a fire, that one was bigger though.

The old building is older than the dock which is fairly old too. They have lived together for eighty two years . .

    7.jpg 8.jpg 9.jpg

    11.jpg 10.jpg 12.jpg 13.jpg

The ship's engines are removed to make even more space for all the kinds of catering that she has aboard . . .

    . . . including last pic's service which was based in the stern . . . :p

She's there for ca. 19 years now, but everything is closed now due to license and safety issues.

She (the ship ;)) has seen better times though . . .

    14.jpg 15.jpg 16.jpg

    Good Luck!
    Angel

PS - the number of prominent items has grown to over four, so must be easy now . . :p

17.jpg this one still takes holidays but this dock is her homeport.

Damn, that was a hard one: Antwerp, Belgium. The new building is the Museum Aan de Stroom opened this month.

I thought that old building was still standing and was looking for that for a long time. :p

While waiting for Angel to get back to enlighten us about Antwerp, I think it's time for a new one.

This town has been formed around one fellows retirement villa.

Didn't even know mobile lighthouses existed, thanks Hoyt.

Somehow Angélique guessed this new one immediately, I don't know how he/she does it. For the rest, here's a new clue:

This train was on route to the city in question. Happened a couple of years ago.

Might have to wait for Angel's return, i had no luck trying to find it over the net. Probably it's closed for the renovation of the ship.

So, no quesses for the city in post #5628? As a hint, I stumbled upon this place when I was searching for Ancora Italy, asked for a page or two back.

    Hi all,

Here the promised info about the prominent items in the Antwerp teaser. I should have ask more questions so you had to find out about them yourselfs... but I didn't and Lurvio gave the right answer to the place, so congrats to Lurvio . . ! ! !

    The dock is the Bonapartedok 51° 13' 43" N, 4° 24' 11" E, built in 1811 by order of Napoleon.

One of the clues (not needed :)) I had in mind was.....

"The dock was ordered by him...." 22.jpg

Btw, the dock is one year older than this painting.

The old building from the historic pic is the Oostershuis. It was built by German traders between 1564 - 1568 and served as headquarters for the German Hanseatic League in Antwerp. The Oostershuis was destroyed by a fire in 1893. After that new warehouses were built there which were demolished for the now new building.

The new building is the new 'Museum Aan de Stroom' as told us by Lurvio. In short 'MAS' (aan de stroom = by the river).

The 'hotel-restaurant-disco-bar-ship' is the ex Håkon Jarl - (no) an ex Hurtigruten now named Diamond Princess but her original name is still on her hull too.

Here a short note from a year ago about the stern based business (translation).

Now the whole ship is out of business, officialy due to license and safety issues but I think it's because city governance don't want it near the new MAS.

The lightship is the West-Hinder-III as told us by Hoyt [IMG]. I've placed a pic of her sister West-Hinder-I in the Rupelmonde quest in post #3922 that was guessed right by Hoyt in one shot because of the Mercator statue :)

I have to thank and honour Seikinsou from who I've borrowed many pics for this teaser... (including the one Welder/Fitter asked for :p)

About the running teaser... I've been there ca. two decades ago, just before the last war there, so I knew which sea and which coast but for which port Google was faster then my memory... you've just have to use two words from what's seen in the first set of pics, no knowledge of the place required... Last pic is a give away . .

I will tell those key words after it's found, then you will say aaarrrgghhhh (etc.) . . :p

    Good Luck..!!

The place is much older than Tito and was founded by a guy from across the water almost two millennia ago...

The name of the place was mentioned in the quote in your previous post though [IMG]

This is the building that started it all there....

    start.jpg

Now you have to name the guy who built it too . . ;)

    Good Luck..!!

And that's in Split, where every guesthouse now is named something like "Diocletian's house"..

    Well done Raggi . . ! !

    ---------------------------------------

    Here the promised key words...

By the sight of the place and surroundings I knew it was the Dalmatian coast but when there is a good clue in the pics, like here, then Google images is even faster than searching down a piece of coast on Googel Earth/Maps.

A very unique tower clock and very easy and quick recognizable on thumbs....

So Google images "tower clock" and a fast scroll down, and page 16 (for me) shows the thumb of this image...

The website that goes with it says ‘‘Famous Romanesque tower clock in Split, Croatia’’ a voila, less then one minute search . . :p

When I checked it for this post I saw it shows up several times on just "tower clock", so I could have missed some the first time.

If someone had noticed that it is Romanesque then "romanesque tower clock" had given the big hit on Google images.

As for the last pic, Google images "train derailed helicopter" and there it is many times on the first page....

    Cheers!

You could also search for the train number(!) + "accident".

    :)
