Remember that this team is all about foils (kind of reminds me of D.L.). Given the "test platform" nature of the craft, I am sure that they plan to use various combinations of retractable foils. Being able to deploy a centrally located Tee foil could be a real plus in medium-light air. The center hull would provide structure for this option.

For heavier air, I would plan to use foils on the lee hull to support the weight of the vessel. However, a Tee foil under the center hull with flaps could help with roll stability. This would probably be most valuable for the case where a surface piercing foil is used as the forward foil under the lee hull.

This boat has a lot to overcome in the history of catamaran foilers. I think they might be better off ,if foiling was the only consideration, to use the Hydroptere configuration.
But since they expect to do a lot of planing the T-foil on each hull is ideal for pitch stability when flying a hull.
It will be interesting to see how it works out as time goes on.

The boat has set a new record of 29.13 knots over a one kilometer course on Lake Geneva.

( translation in googlese-much, much worse than the excellent english transalations available on the old site!)

    Kiss black white bird.

The sky is overcast, stratus are low and high winds but unstable. Bise is oriented NNE.
With a reef in the mainsail and solent, by 20 to 25 knots of Bise, Jacques Vincent, Alain Thebault, Daniel and Stephane Schmaeh Dyen rushed port tack. Two sailors, two engineers; winning combination for the third test release!
A strong acceleration during the run between Lausanne and Evian, then 67 seconds later, after peaking at 34.84 knots, a first record is measured on the beacon of the Société Nautique de Genève and the Zenith El Primero 10th Striking scope by Alain.
A reward on Wednesday 1 st June for the whole team Hydrofoil and its two main sponsors: the private bank Lombard Odier, a faithful partner in the first hour, and the luxury watch manufacturer Zenith. The work done this winter with construction decision support HDS in Brest and EPFL, scientific advisor of the program is beginning to bear fruit.

    Bubble and sea spray.

The entire team erupted in joy and opens the first bottle of champagne Lanson Rose (photo enclosed) for this first record of the Hydrofoil. C. whose potential seems very high.
Counting measures of effort and stability will allow better understanding of the flight envelope. In the meantime, Alain and Jacques, co-pilot, joined the Hydrofoil at anchor at Cowes for a trial run this weekend for the record around the Isle of Wight.

Note that the variable geometry steps are deployed in these photos....

Also, compare the increased number of fences on the upper hydrofoil surface with the original number on the first pictures. They also are placed further toward the top of the foil(closer to the hull).

    Hydroptere.ch----2nd record in two days

    from the Hydroptere site:

SECOND RECORD OF THE GENEVAJune 2, 2011

    Translation French to googlese......

21.32 KNOTS IN 1 HOUR * The HYDROFOIL. CH surging.
Alain Thebault and earned their SECOND TEAM RECORD ON GENEVA, LESS THAN TWENTY FOUR HOUR AFTER THE RECORD MILE *.

First sail this morning for Thierry Lombard and Bertrand Cardis aboard the hydrofoil. Ch, then the crew of Stéphane Dyen, Adrien Lombard, Daniel Schmäh Alain Thebault and Jacques Vincent addresses the hour record .

Although conditions are not ideal, is on port tack and heading towards the Bouveret, on one side to 80 degrees and the wind at a steady speed of 19 knots, the crew takes its brands during this fifth of navigation test.

After the transfer, the French side of the lake, powerful acceleration on the downwind leg with a swing speed between 25 and 30 knots to finish before the entrance to the small lake.

A second record close to Lake Geneva this first week of testing! The Hydrofoil. Ch is instrumented as a prototype aircraft. The next week will count the records.

Counting measures of effort and stability will help identify the flight envelope. In the meantime, Alain and Jacques, co-pilot, joined the Hydrofoil at anchor at Cowes for a trial run this weekend for the record around the Isle of Wight.

PS-Gary, did you notice how those steps deploy on this and the other pictures?

    Hydroptere.ch

    from Scuttlebutt Europe today:

The launch of l'Hydroptere.ch in Spring 2011 represented a new milestone for the project. Now heading to the open sea, the Hydroptere Team is focused on the versatility of the concept and prepares the arrival of flying boats in the offshore sailing world.

    * The Hydroptere.ch broke two records (records for the Lake Geneva or Lake Leman) 29.18 knots over 1 km and hit a peak speed of 34.84 knots, 1 of June 2011. 21.32 kts on a hour 2 of June 2011

Launched in autumn 2010, this catamaran is part of a complete scientific process. As a lab boat, her main purpose is to test geometries and behaviours in varied real conditions for the development of l'Hydroptere maxi,

... "triple wake of bubbles and spray" is the giveaway, Doug - it will be 60 foot tri foiler Hydroptere repeating attack on RIW record.
Hydroptere.ch catamaran is being developed at Lake Geneva for the later maxi ocean version - again pretty certain that boat, H.ch, is not going to Cowes.

In the video the rudders do not seem to have T foils. Am I missing something?

Timothy, they're kind of hard to see when retracted but they're there. Fairly small, white and horizontal....

UPDATE: Timothy go to the site and watch the slide show that comes up automatically-one of the pictures is from the stern of Hydroptere.ch and you can clearly see the t-foils..... http://www.hydroptere.com/

    Hydroptere.ch ---- Bol d'Or Mirabaud

Bol d'Or Mirabaud, 2011 EDITION Googlese translation-(nothing in english on the site)

    June 20, 2011

Although Hydroptere. Ch was not a sailboat regatta, the 35-foot catamaran, launched just a few weeks ago and already the holder of record of the hours and kilometers, participated for the first time Bol d'Or, in its 2011 edition.

The Franco-Swiss crew made the basis for Schmah Daniel, Jeremiah Lagarrigue, Stéphane Dyen, Jacques Vincent and Alain Thebault, accompanied by Thierry Lombard this time, was pleasantly hooked the Regatta in the rain, but has unfortunately been forced to retire after the 4:30 start of the race, off Evian. It had however started well downwind under full mainsail and gennaker, requiring some fairly physical gybes as the crew faces on and off the foils to each maneuver. The crew showed great concentration to get through the storm's departure involving areas of high winds and other no wind at all.

The crew estnéanmoins happy to be able to meet the challenge of participating in this event this year. The key to the team of the hydrofoil. Ch is to learn for the Bol d'Or 2012 and of course continue to make this prototype scale 1 / 3 (10x10m) allows term implementation of a flying boat Offshore 30x30m to emerge soon.

From this perspective, the engineering team, led by Davy Moyon and popes of aeronautics and the shore team consisting of Robin Amacher, Adrien Lombard and Pierre Tocny analyze the recordings for the Bol d'Or, to make some technical modifications to the boat and to finish the race in better conditions next year.
