The temptation is almost more than I can bear! Spent some time on a couple of them. Being lower ranks, I always seemed to draw the short berth.

 

First one sold for $5600 CAD........

Btw, Tad, did I mention that James & I agreed that the brigantine rig would be his/my choice, performance & sail cost aside?

LOL! He's the first one I thought of, the reason I made the thread. But, he said that he wants something smaller, if I remember correctly. If I weren't in the process of running away from home, I would've bought one. They've kept them in operational shape, at least through the 1990s, using them for dive & other training exercises. One thing that always sticks with me is the memory of having to kip with knees bent(I'm 6'2.5").

 

Now here's something for the collaboration forum. They're training craft with twin DD 6-71s. I think TAD should collect one and we could sign up for restoration work. I'll commit to 200 hrs if I can learn about those diesels.

If one was going to take up training Sea Scouts or Navy Cadets it would make total sense......but the reality is she'll be short handed, and sailing (likely engineless) in and out of all kinds of awkward spots.....so decent performance is very important......and cost is measured in construction and maintenance hours, not just initial outlay......one of the key reasons for going with a traditional boat and rig is that we can do almost everything ourselves and make most gear out of basic materials.....I can't afford fine custom ash shell blocks from Europe, so I'll make what we need here....I'll keep the number of blocks required to a minimum......

This is probably closer to where we'll end up........a simple gaff ketch, perhaps someday to have the topsail.....

I'm joking, of course. When we were waiting for the ferry, James asked me if I saw your drawings for the rig, to which I replied, "Yeah, all 38 of them!"
He asked me what I thought about the look of the brig-rig &, who couldn't say, "it is beautiful, majestic!". Sadly, this is the real world but the gaff ketch will be just as sweet & is as functional as it is "shippy", imho. Btw, if you know of anyone looking for a cheap, tough boat, when I was in California I saw a JH Tahiti that a rigger owns in the San Fran area. It needs some interior & engine aligned/mounted, but he's refitted & re-rigged it. I noticed it on yachtworld, still, last night, asking price about $8,900usd.

LOL! Gee, what a sexy boat! Still, someone will buy it & will be on the forums next month, asking how to finish it off!

 

I saw that one the other day too. Was thinking of bidding just for the trailer. You never know, $500 might take it although I'm sure the outdrives, if they can be salvaged, are worth quite a bit more than that.

 

But the minimum bid on that is $3000.00
