I think we all appreciate seeing these details. If the background were not there to give it away one would be hard-pressed to tell the pieces from full-sized structural members.

There's more history and practical demonstration of burdensome, yet graceful and obviously efficient hull shapes in these few posts and photos than in more than one book I can think of.

I would love to visit China but cannot afford to sail the boat there. Here is a photo of bending the new sail to the spars a couple of years ago, the boat is hidden behind others.
My wife's brother lives in China so possibly we could fly and visit your museum and model shop sometime.

    Very beautiful Guangdong sails rigs!
In fact in foreign countries also have many lovers of junk! 1988 vancouver expo has a Amoy(Xiamen)junk showcasing their ! And moored in the Island Hornby starting 's bay!

The previous two copies of the 1988 in xiamen just launching of photograph, is the last one in 1992 in Canada's photo.

Welcome you to China! I had the chance I can give you a guide! Today I just started making 1/18 “42ft LONGBOAT ARMED FOR WAR 1834” model
. The production process of it in succession photos!

"Free China" is the type of "丹阳",which I made the upgrade version of "舟苗 舟览" ,is a common type of Foochow junk. "舟苗 舟览"is mainly used in short voyages along the coast of Fujian,"丹阳" to more distance.
"Amoy" is the type of the "白底",is a coastal fisher of Quanzhou.

By the way , I saw a photo about "Amoy" in “Can Chinese Junk actually circumnavigate?”. We are looking for her from she has gone to USA in the 1920s . Maybe you have more information and photos about her , can you help us ? Thank you .

    Hi Yuen_Sail,

what is the reason for the rounded planks above the waterline of many of the Chinese FanChuan? is the rounded wood acting as a fender?

You mention the different types of Chinese Fanchuan, is there some literature in Chinese about them?

    Greetings from California
