Bumpy is leading the pack.
Randy S. is in hot pursuit in second.
A ways back are some Hobie 18's with wings, various other multis like the Tri chief had designed, some Hobie Tandem islands, Jan and Meade in an i550, and a Core sound 20.

I love checking the viewer.

That thing is a light air monster. Last night when conditions lightened up a bit, Randy had over a knot advantage over Bumpy on his Tornado. I hope he can keep it together all the way to the finish this year--it's a cool machine! Interestingly, Chief's old Tri he had deisgned and built is rerigged with a H16 mast and is sitting in third ahead of a couple Weta's and a couple Hobie 18's.

Dan, I haven't been able to access info all day-have you got another link that works better than the one I posted?

 

Their site has been mostly unresponsive all day today as well. I've not been able to get much info or even pics of the start other than a single set of pics and a video. Around lunch I was able to get the mapper up for a bit, but it wasn't correct apparently. It showed Randy stopped near CP2 and Bumpy out and off down the coast. That not correct I hear.

The video I saw was of the start over at WBF and showed Randy virtually one handing the boat off the beach--it must be amazingly light. A stretched A cat, two surfboards on edge (not really, but not far off either) for amas and carbon everywhere. No lifting foils though...;-)

From what I read, Mr. Smyth has extraordinary talent when it comes to racing anything that is a multihull. The list of victories and the projects that have benefited from his expertise, place him way up in the superstar category with few multihull competitors.

 

Randy appears to have won.

 

Re Randy Smyth, "superstar category with few multihull competitors" I think a few French people might take issue with that !

Last night I was looking at the map, and Randy was at the finish line. Bumpy was a couple miles away.

This morning the discussion seems to confirm that Randy was in a few minutes before Bumpy. Talk of sailing at 15 knots across the Florida Bay flats in the dark.

Serious racers are serious.

 

Perhaps some French could suggest that they be included on the list of the few. It is simply my opinion based on a study of Smyth's accomplishments. There are very few multihull sailors who have done so many things that have produced results at such a high level.

 

I doubt it. Randy has had high profile successes in France for decades. He is very popular there.
