Design challenge - small "commuter" to travel 1500km in 2 days

Yeah, Luigi Colani sounds like a typical Soviet WIG designer's name...

 

Well, he pasted "CCCP" on his design, so...

But few people know he's actually German (not Italian, as you might think).

 

Soviet WIGs were designed by Alexeev (who was not only doctor of engineering, but excellent stylist with great hand-sketching skills) and his team. Besides the same team designed hydrofoils posted above.
Colani is just an artist and has nothing to do with those WIGs.

 

I'm sure these people will sell you an "Islander". They say 800 km range @ 113 knts for about $1.5 Mil less taxes, licensing, etc... As Daiquiri and CaptBill point out, 1500km in 48hrs by water is not going to be easy or cheap, and will be hard living in a small craft.

 

And they probably can't wait to finally sell one.

 

I just thought they were reselling the Volga 2 WIG design. What ever "Bently yachts" is, the craft exists...<shrug>.

and when you crash, it's only from a couple of meters of altitude . . .

In any sea state the constant 6+ gravity accelerations will make the trip SEEM lots longer.

But since it is a business trip, might make sense if there's really A LOTS of money at stake.

 

The answer might simply be an "ultralight" style aircraft.

No big deal to learn to fly a Trike that would go the distance at 60-75MPH.

$10K would purchase the aircraft and the instruction.
