If you set up the tender locked to the stern, like a barge setup, the steering and handling will be similar to having an outboard installed on a stern bracket.

    RosesToAshes,

Sorry, but it's no clearer to me. See Post #11.

How about this: can you post a few pictures of the vessel?

Without a better discription / images, I don't believe anyone can really make any truly helpful, informed comment.

P.S. I am a Transport Canada licensed, commercial tow boat captain and I own a houseboat. I would like to help you and by no means mean to discredit others comments on this thread. We simply need more information to comment effectively.

Of course you can but at what cost, and I don't mean just monetary.

I wouldn't advise any changes, you should buy a boat that is correct and what you want in the first place.

Good luck. Oh, do you know the happiest two days of a persons life? The day they but their boat and the day they sell it!

I keep on hearing that about the two happiest days. In my experience that is not so. I love boats. I love operating boats. I love working on boats. Buying and selling is only incidental to ownership.
Roses to Ashes: You have another thread about modifying the houseboat. I think that you may be trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. It may end up being an expensive project that will end up in something unsafe and unusable.

Yah, maybe, but it'll be a good learning experience and great for the economy!
