Doug, curved foils, three (or four) element rigs - you're talking only incremental improvements over already fast designs here... so don't be disappointed, this is one design, not bulging eyes, leading edge, extremist stuff - I mean you don't want to start sounding like some of those (very few thankfully) churlish, look at me shouting my superior knowledge, non anarchists on SA. These cats are super cool ... would you want a ride aboard? Ah, no thanks, hasn't got curved foils, not interested. BS.

Thanks Doug. I enjoyed that article immensely.

Especially:- " MF: Yes, I have here in New Caledonia an A-Class with curved foils. The boat works nicely but it is not yet fully air-borne. If everything works according to plans I’ll have a flying A-Cat before the end of the year."

Did that "Flying A-Cat" actually eventuate. ??

    Great shots Doug.
All those guys perched on the flying weather hull---and not 'a one of them wearing a flotation jacket.
Thats what I call confidence --(or something else).
The pivoting rudders are quite intriguing.

I'm wondering: with the experience of Ben Hall and his wing in the A Class(not so good) and The Wing in the Moth Class(not so good) I'm wondering if soft sails will be hard to beat with the modern materials that are now available. Could an Extreme 40 with soft sails beat an AC45???

The comment made me look closer.

Seems to me, most of them look downright casual, laid back and not worried about a thing. For day 2 of hull flying on a big winged cat, it would seem that they built in some really good ability to keep the heel right where they want it.

On the other hand, they may have just been sailing in oh-so-nice wind/water conditions.

Keep in mind the advantage of the wing is not just top speed. As much of an advantage, particularly as these boats will be match racing, are the control aspects of the rig. Acceleration/deceleration and tuning the trim to shifts and heading changes is much quicker.
