Well Tom they do say that if you do it fast enough ,for long enough you ,disappear up your own nozzle. or similar ,never tried it myself.

A jetboat with the reverse bucket in a neutral position can rotate within it's own length indefinitely ,why anybody would want to do this I don't know ,but they can .

Neutral means no thrust in any direction. There, I said it.

That's not what I expected , I was referring to the post above it . However as I am sure you know ,a jet can maintain a neutral position as regards fore and aft movement and still manouvre about its axis .I am sure that RivrLivn was just pointing out that the reverse bucket on a jet gives it remarkable manouverability.

The fine adjustment of the bucket to give prolonged neutral effect is almost impossible.

For intance if you left it in a lake and went for a swim with the motor running it would not be there when you get back.

The only real way to achieve a nuetral would be with a clutch or gearbox.

    The bucket method always kreeps

And a hell-of-a-lot of fun. Also try full speed, zero helm, full bucket and full throttle!!! Be quick to get off the gas though as the nose dissappears underwater. Have about 1/3rd filled a boat like this. Oh, and remember to close your mouth to as it fills up with water!

Neutral on the jet means the motor is still engaged but the bucket is partly down, meaning that thrust ahead equals thrust astern. This can even happen at full throttle and is the single biggest thing that make the jet so much more manouverable than it's contempory counterparts. Apply some helm (turn port / stbd) while applying throttle and bucket is in the neutral position and the vessel will rotate in that direction while remaining geo-stationary.

Having captained a 3000 hp with twin Hamilton 42's, I am well familiar with the remarkable handling characteristics.

I still don't get it... but I think I'll just let it go as nonsense.

Quite right Frosty ,but the upside of that is that you can easily keep station in a jetboat whichever way and however hard the tide is running. Very useful in the 7kt ebb out of our harbour.

What do you mean by 360? Also, reverse buckets have a safety feature that doesn't allow them to go on unless the throttle is down.

Do you have a link to this device Gonzo ,because in over 40yrs of jetboats I've never come across it, and speedboat's pictures would not be possible.

All PWCs have it. It is simply a tab that prevents shifting if the throttle is above fast idle.

Sorry ,don't have much to do with PWC's , thankfully ,kind of view them as disposable. People always seem to want to cut them up and use the parts for other things. In fact thinking about it that would be dangerous on a jetboat ,it removes the ability to stop .
