Looks exquisite! Very nice work! Is it a model of an existing boat?

As someone that loves Chinese Junks all I can say is "I want it!"

I remember reading somewhere that the hull of the Chinese Junk was derived from looking at the body shape of pelagic birds that would float on the surface of the water even during rough weather. Does anybody know if there is truth to this? Looking at that model makes me think there is. It looks like a duck.

You mean the stern picture of birds? It's called“鹢”, it is Chinese mythology of a kind of water birds, from Chinese classical literature works depictions of view, has several basic characteristics: caesious; Good goofy, Outside thickand crane. If there really is this kind of bird of words, the closest is herons and crane.

Fujian winding coastline, in Taiwan strait, in cold warm crisscross area, the prevailing wind are unstable, summer, autumn two season often have typhoons landed. The complex natural environment for junk modelling, the performance, structure, material and construction process puts forward specific requirements, formed the bottom type pointed cut, flat on the fore and aft seals, The freeboard tilt, Keel obvious, rudder deep, deck girder and arch big easy drainage, adding the common characteristic ballast etc. Unique external conditions and inner motivation, make fujian junks gradually become the main Chinese junks.
