To go further, it's a sort of windward PROA with an angled foil but with an inclining, reversible rig ... so the bow is always the bow. Bloody hell, it IS a revolution, Doug!

    Exactly right!

How do you account for the fact that some days, the kite won't get to the start line or the finish line? And while the Moths go incredibly well much of the time, with an apparent edge over the 49ers, the gap is much bigger in the 49er's favour when the Moths can't foil - and in those conditions the kite probably can't even start.

The rise in kites, along with the earlier advent of boards and cats, may be one reason for the drift away from high performance dinghies - that's where a lot of the action is. The medium-pace classes don't seem to suffer from the same issue, which could be why there's a move to slower boats.

There is something to be said for a boat that you can enjoy when YOU want to sail rather than having to wait for conditions that let you sail at all.

Thats the beauty of kites, they fit in the boot of the car! racing on sat on a Elliott 780 and kiting on Sunday, it is funny how the two feel so different at the same speed though, 15kts on the edge of control in the 780 is cruising with the kite, 25kts feels more like the same level of lack of control, that said the speeds are irrelevant its the fun in pushing the limits of either.

    Kitefoils

The foil on the right is a new French windsurfer foil. The low aspect foil is similar to the first kite foils and the other is similar to the newer ,faster kite foilers:

I would like to see anyone try and get around a course at the local spot with a foil board..... Then if you look at the latest rules the foil length is limited to 500mm.

I take it you got the gist of why RM isnt important from the free body diagrams I put up?
