Sailpower by Wallace Ross and Elements of Yacht Design by Norman Skene are on everyones bookshelf. You can probably purchase at most good book stores. These are not concerned with fishing boats but sailing and the terminology of design.

Her's one from last year's wanderings. Every once in a while I see one here in SE Alaska but I've never seen one under sail. I think they buy them to get a boat that will handle big blue water gracefully.

The more things change the more they stay the same.......

This J.P. Hartog design was created just for you about 35 years ago.......these old National Fisherman pages are too big to fit in my scanner so bear with me.......

    And Part 3, the last.......

    Fishsail03.jpg

I'm not sure how much Hartog understood about fishing......moving fish to the forward hold would be a real pain.......a major revision would be to move the engine room aft and have all hold space midships, with tanks under or alongside.......

The salmon troller is beautiful !!... Ever seen the crazy Messina swordfish harpoon boats ?
And with a longliner...how many days are you offshore fishing ? a one week trip ? How many miles do you cover on a typical trip ? 3 or 4 crew ?

And the design posted by Tad looks like a well conceived, attractive, sail assisted fishing boat

    Book recommendation.......

Preliminary Design of Boats and Ships, Cyrus Hamlin NA, ISBN 0-87033-391-7

Out of print but available used, Cyrus was involved in all facets of small vessel design including fishing boats......

Oh and when dreaming of sailing tunafish longliners you might as well dream about the fastest, most beautiful ,....the most famous ... Jolie Brise.

    http://www.joliebrisemodels.co.uk/history.html

Get one of those and you wouldnt even have to boat the tuna...people would pay you just to watch !!!

And more beautiful sailing rig configurations on "line fishing" boats. Very Good for dreaming.

Is it possible to stop your drivel?

Here is one asking for professional advice and assistance, not for your anecdotal tales and babble.

    Thanks

You have by so far received at least three good hints. I would call Tad´s being the most interesting by now.
As you can see, he did not mention to charge you any amount, just assists.
When it comes to a design, that will most likely change. But by then, we will manage to get you closer towards your requirements. Sure

BTW did you see my first post here? It happened to be cross posted with your reply on another one.

    Regards
    Richard

Not that I would know anything about fishing*, but don´t we have the same prob with every sailing design?

    Regards
    Richard

    * and I mean Nothing, I never held a rod or line with bait. (ähh, we leave business out yeah?)

Oh and more books Nick...Howard Chapelle . Chapelle was an American naval architect, curator of maritime history at the Smithsonian Institution and he documented American Fishing craft.

His books are studied by all serious Naval Architects and maritime historians researching fishing craft from the age of sail.
    These books are classic .

    American Small Sailing Craft
    The American Fishing Schooners
The Search for Speed Under Sail

Holy cow, that is indeed crazy! Seems like one good wave and everyone would be going for a swim on that one.

    @OP

Take a look at what was used in that area 100 or so years ago. Conditions haven't changed that much and it may save you having to re-invent the wheel if you can update a classic design to meet your needs.

    Oh we are impressed..........

Could you stop your babble now?

    Am I not clear enough?

Your dumb copy and paste drivel does not help to bring the OP further, so, leave!
