I think you mix up 2 different type of greenies, Dreamers and Actualists ....

Dreamers talk about what if scenario with out focusing on how.
Acutalists try to justify what if with how ...

Consumers dont choose the most wasteful they choose the most efficient, right now its not electricity.
When a motor that is efficient enough to compete in marine field trust me people will think differently

    Simple eh ?

Ahh.... using laws to make your product sell.

Worked for the auto insurance industry in the States. Why not for "green" boats in Canada?

Maybe Questor is just the Leonardo DiVinci of our time.
They thought he was mad. Imagine if he had aluminium and rivets

Every goal that is achieved starts out as either a dream or a fantasy. Many easily achievable goals are never realized while many preposterous fantasies come to life. I have achieved some impossible fantasies and have failed at many things that should have been simple. As I go through life I enjoy suggesting both the probable and the highly improbable.

A few weeks ago I set out to try to convert an older boat into a Hybrid.Sticking ruthlessly to my goal of doing something alternatively energized has resulted in me stumbling into a new career opportunity involving the development of two alternatively powered, low income, handicapped housing projects. The two housing projects I'm now involved in will allow me to pursue a wide range of unrealized life long goals. I haven't completely given up on the boat but along the way I have picked up an opportunity to provide alternatively powered home ownership to a large group of people that might not otherwise ever escape life long tenancy.

If you think my alternative energy concepts are weird you should see what I've seen this week that is actually going to get built.

I am definitely going to try to build a submersible glider. The nay sayers have convinced me that converting a cabin cruiser to Hybrid technology is too difficult a task. My conscience wouldn't allow me to own a boat if I didn't try to somehow develop a hybrid or electric craft so I will appease my conscience by building an electric submersible glider. The $10,000 I would have spent on cabin cruiser hybrid technology will now go to construction of the submersible glider. The next decision I have to make will be to choose an economical body material and construction method. I am thinking of making the body out of either a PVC or steel core overlaid with fiber glass.

I am patiently waiting for a rerun of a nature documentary that featured an awesome looking submersible glider. It was one of the "One Ocean" episodes of David Suzuki's " Nature of Things". That submarine was the simplest and best looking one I've seen so far. There are a lot of goofy, ugly looking submarines on line. Many of them were built by junkyard recyclers. They simply grabbed whatever steel was available , welded it together and went diving. I'd like something with a little more class than that.

On the other hand a guy could start with whatever is available in the scrap yard and then class it up after the basics are done.

Great way to kill yourself. Oh David Suzuki, bright guy, sounds like he knows what is talking about most of time, and them falls into unlimited parallel universes. I see he is your mentor.

I'm still trying to master two finger typing. I've been working on that for about a decade now. Once I master that skill I'll move on to search methods if they don't change the operating system again.

Testing an unproven design could be challenging, fulfilling or thrilling depending upon how well things went. With the margin of safety for buoyancy that I'd want I'd be afraid that it might not sink.A guy could save the cost of a funeral if it didn't come up. I like the idea of burial at sea.

Suzuki has some good moments but I wouldn't consider myself an overall fan of his. My favorite scientists are Asimov, Bradley, Einstein and Berne.

    Questor.

Your best bet would be to make your Submersable in a configutration of a Round Ball. That way it will Glide equally well in all dirctions bioth submerging and after landing on the bottom where it can then continue to explore the bottom of the Seabed.

The Speed of disent will be goverend buy the wait. The slower it goes the longer your wait will be.

Here is a Proven Design. with the engineer demonstrating the balance.

just extrapilate this for your porpoises

    C/t = Probe Dia diminished by Mass/PSI

Questor, why descend at all, you can drift the worlds ocean pretty effectively. So build a ball big enough to hold everything you need and own. Have it towed out to the Gulfstream and just drift to Europe, then have someone tow you to currents taking you back to Americas. You will do about 3-4 knots. Bring a watermaker, fishing pole, Solar panels. Why even worry about propulsion...

You reconoitur the Inventor Professer Lemon.
