The true believer , believes that everything is moved by the hand of God . Except of course the things that they dont like to hear, or read, or see, or think,
or what sombody else thinks , or does, . It is justifiable insanity at its best .

If that was meant as a serious question, I doubt anyone can help!

Do you really think you can contribute to the plans of somebody who believes the ark was seaworthy?
Or someone who believes he can redesign something from 36 to 60ft without even knowing how to spell Hydrodynamics?

Think of it as a design koan.

a nonsensical or paradoxical question to a student for which an answer is demanded, the stress of meditation on the question often being illuminating.

I believe in God and the Bible, but not believing in something 100% or not taking it 100% literally does not diminish from the wealth of information in the bible or the splendor of God's creation. What people fail to understand is the Bible is a book retold by men.
The story of Noah was no meant to be a boat design course, but a story of the relationship between God/man and good/evil.

Anyway, regardless of the biblical side note, Whole fleets of ships have disappeared praying to God. The Ocean is the Ocean, it does not care about you, your God, if your good or evil, green or a polluter. If the winds blow, you better hope you did your homework and that you have a well built and designed boat.

Oh, lakes and rivers kill plenty of would be boaters every year too.

I have contributed about all I can to this thread.

The very zeal and hubris that Goodwill displays here is the very attribute that is needed by an amateur to build a boat of this size with poor quality materials. It's also the very attribute that begets disasterous results on the design end of things and disasterous result from many well intentioned changes to design as the project progresses. Once in a while someone has it all. The zeal to complete a project and the common sense on design and senseless changes.

Goodwill only has half so I am afraid that there is little that any of us can do. His pocketbook and the sea will have to run its course. Fortunately its no skin off my nose. :)

    Greetings,

    Apex,

Printed link to design spiral. The BOR are just as asked for simple and to the point. Now went to next section: Concepts. Came to part where it mentions certain designers like to keep the same design and just optimize. This is where Jubilee is at. Need to figure out the hyrostatics. This design will work whether it is 20' or 600 cubits, 50' was decided because as drawn the arrangements work for everything. Just like some one that likes a certain type of house style, big or small you work within those parameters.

Reason for starting thread is to get efficient answers and even if they are not specifically within the design spiral they are pertinent. I have family, workers, and obligations and would appreciate curteous and thoughtful responses so that this part of the design can be completed and other projects can be handled.

    Mydauphin,

Since you put such merit on the Scriptures then wouldnt you think the design of the ark is worthy of study and maybe of benefit to mankind? It went through the worst storm of all time and survived. Rather than using straw arguements, acknowledge the design porportions and then ask yourself why did it work so well.

    Wardd,

God gives freewill, but the duty of Christians is to submit ourselves to the will of the Father in Heaven as His Son Jesus the Christ showed us.

    Frank Smith,

The drawings clearly show an outboard engine for harbor work and rivers. The bottom is 3" thick 4 layers of 3/4" ply. The sides will be 2x4 stringers 4.5"O.C. vertically with 2 layers 3/4" if using the stringer method.

You are probably right that more displacement and more depth will be necessary. Just used a batten marked 14" below WL from end to end.

If you know of any programs in the computer stores that can design hulls and figure hydrostatics mention them, it would be appreciated.

    Peace.

Goody. Did you read Pericles link? Even if Noahs ark did exist, which is doubtful at best. No one knows what it looked like at all. Most believers think it was a box with square bow and stern, or boxlike with rounded edges. The biblical version didn't need to sail or even be propelled, merely float.

Why must you continue in this quest when its blatantly obvious that your design is nothing like the ark in almost every way possible besides 3 arbitrary dimensions which you have changed anyway. And why do you think it is these 3 dimensions that provide "seaworthiness and seakeeping" alone? Further more why do you think these dimension will scale safely?

Take a long hard look at your idea. The concept is ridiculous as it wont even be a reasonable or safe performer let alone fulfill its primary objective of paying homage to Noahs ark.

We gave efficient answers to your questions. Things have not changed. Jubilee WILL NOT meet the parameters of your SOR pure and simple. There is nothing that you can do with the Jubilee design to change that, pure and simple.

Will Jubilee float and probably sail some? Perhaps, depends on how well you build her but she WILL NOT meet the SOR requirements as set forth by you. Could a design be had that will? Yes but it might not come within budget.

Why do you insist that we have not given these answers to your questions? THAT IS THE REASON FOR OUR FRUSTRATION. You seem to be asking us for ways to change the design to meet the SOR and it is not possible.

    They don´t exist Goody.

All the programs require a deep understanding of Naval Architecture and a lot of practical experience to produce something sensible. So you have to study before you could use them.

Your stubbornly repeated statements, that a proven design could easily scale up, shows clearly you neither have the basic knowledge to design a boat, nor have you even understood the design spiral.

As Pierre pointed out several times now, you are here to get a confirmation of your preconception, not experts advice. You will never find that!

No matter how long you go in circles on that subject, the result is the same, in the end you have no design which roughly fits your SOR, you will have no budget to build what would fit your SOR, and you will not agree with both of these statements.
Therefore you made this thread the most worthless on the board, for all guests and members.

Now go on and discuss details of a completely senseless plan, focus on scantlings of a vessel which cannot be build, and don´t forget to develop a sail plan which fits into that!

But don´t expect any experts assistance down that road.

    Richard
