    is from BODEN BOATS australia end i made from scrap lofting take a lot of time
    but i am very please with the final product 25knots at 5000rev.135hp outboard.,i building a tug boat TITAN from GLEN L MAREINE & K ATKINSON alloy with full zize paterns plaiting at this moment best regards j c BAIRO

    very good your 21 feet and very nice also, well the designer of the Pilgrim 590 was Albert Nazarov ( Alik) senior member of this forum, I have done a little modification in the bow, my pilgrim is a 21 feet...

    its ok, that´s Isla de las Gaviotas, near of Puerto de Buceo,and in spring and summer the Rio de la Plata is very chopy and windy, I think the most beautifull season for sail here is automme and the winter is the weather is fine too, but the water is very cold.
    At this moment the Solymareño has sailed about 900 nautical milles, in the Rio de la Plata.

    gonzo;;; i know the condicion at the rio de la plata ,i have working for 12 yers at talleres /varadero in the port administracion /a lot of time sailing and work with remolcadores (tug)boats .thats my trade /pressure vessels constrtion.,i will bring TITAN (tug)alloy vessel with my too on my return to URUGUAY duing the plaiting at the moment ., will send you potos very soon chers carlos

    Hy Alik

    I like your Kavalier 800 design and i want to build the boat but for that i was to the naval autority here in Romania and they want to ad at the project stability info like STIX (iso 12217-2), but i have problems calculeiting the area under GZ arms (AGZ)

    Can you help me whit that if you have time please please :confused:

    You should build it, make inclination test and then produce stability curve based on actual CG. Having this curve, You can calculate STIX.

    This is the only way to go becasue amount of modifications and material changes is enormous for amateur-built boats.

    I wonder why they need STIX? Boats built by amateurs are not subject to CE certification...

    If You need to check area, just take any book on naval architecture or numerical methods, and study how integration works.

    Above a size one have to register the boat. To register you need documentation on ship safety.

    I believe the regisration limit throughout EU is 6.2m LOA and 10m2 sail area. At least it is in Hungary.

    Claudiu I don't know the ukrainen or moldavian registration rules, you might get around the thing by first registering in another country then transfer the registration home.

    However I would not try to build a seagoing craft without design documentation containing stability calculations.

    Ok, then one needs to order the design (in some countries designer should have a license), then run design approval procedure, etc. The costs involved are probalby compartable with cost of construction... good bye, boatbuilding!

    I wonder if any design for amateur builders (free or purchased) is approved or contains stability diagrams and all other data for certification? I have never seen one...

    As to P590 and K800 designs, both of them were developed before ISO12217 was introduced; I am quite sure they will comply to category C, but there are no calculations performed to prove it.

    I know this design; nice boat.

    I never try to 'improve' designs developed by others, unless a) their authors ask for advice or b) there is a safety concern.

    Actually for modifications one needs to know how You want to use the boat.

    The designers of the Drascombe Lugger and Paltus are both dead now, of course.

    The on-going issue with this design is the inboard rudder set-up, which requires the rudder to be lifted clear out of the water well before beaching, which means no steerage control at a fairly crucial time. Failure to do this can result in a bent rudder assembly as the kick-up is only partially effective - and this damage has indeed happened to several people. Safety issue ? Certainly can be, but more of a nuisance most of the time.

    But - I respect your views about tinkering with someone else's design.
